APPAREL FIT TECHNICIAN

Fashion Exchange (FX) students will learn to recognize good apparel fit, identify fit problems and how to correct them while learning the different body types and ideal fit standards.

COURSE OVERVIEW
Customer Service in Apparel Fitting

In this course students learn customer service standards and expected communication in the role of the fit technician. Customer service behaviors will be modeled and practiced. Students will learn workplace health and safety practices that will apply to their workplace.

Apparel Fittting Technique 1

Students are introduced to correct pinning and marking techniques and utilize these for the major alternations on pants. Basic fit concepts such as grainline, drape and the balance of garments on the body form the basis for understanding fit and are applied to pant fitting.

Apparel Fitting Standards

In this course students will have the ability to identify body type and ideal fit standards. They will be able to apply this knowledge to identify fit issues and illustrate enhancement of body type through choice of clothing style.

Textiles in Apparel Fitting

Students will learn to identify fabrics, understand the special handling of different textiles and understand how different fabrics will affect fit, pressing technique, garment construction and the relative cost of alterations

Apparel Fitting Technique 11

This course provides deeper knowledge of garment fit through the exploration of fit standards for skirts, dresses, shirts and jackets. Students will learn to apply fit techniques to these garments and their auxiliary components

Work Preparation
WORK PLACEMENT

4 week industry placement of 100 hours to apply what has been learned.

What You’ll Learn

In addition to the learning outcome requirements, programs are designed to provide essential transferrable skills (referred to sometimes as essential employability skills), which include: communication, customer service standards, resume preparation and interview techniques, problem solving, as well as interpersonal and personal skills

Career Path

This program will prepare you for entry level employment and experience in fashion related careers in alteration shops, retail and within the field of styling .

Opportunities Available to You

Successful graduates of the program will be prepared to take on product development, manufacturing and retail roles such as: Fitting technician, product development assistant, styling, retail alterations.

Tuition Fees

Program available at no cost to participants and includes all materials and tools needed to complete the program.
