Competitions

ASCM CASE COMPETITION in Collaboration with Deloitte

GBC Supply Chain Club student leaders competed in the Regional Round of APICS Student Case Competition, provided in collaboration with Deloitte Consulting LLP in Chicago and earned a spot at the international competition happening in Las Vegas in October 2019.

The ASCM Case Competition provides student teams with an opportunity to enhance and test their supply chain knowledge by working on end-to-end supply chain challenges drawn from company experiences. An outstanding jury of professionals from Deloitte and the supply chain industry found the solution and presentation provided by Daniel Parris and Mohamed Mazouz the best.

Canadian Institute of Financial Planning (CIFP) Case Challenge

The CIFP Case Challenge is meant to provide students with an opportunity to take what they have learned in their financial services programs and demonstrate their financial planning skills.

In 2019, a team of George Brown College students, led by professors Tracey Britt and Carolyn Fallis, defeated western regional champion to take the Canadian title at the 2019 CIFP National Financial Planning Case Competition.

Enactus Central Canada Regional and National Expositions

Annually, Enactus Canada Regional Expositions take place in Atlantic, Western and Central Canada, and bring together student, academic and industry leaders to celebrate the achievements of Canada's future leaders and entrepreneurs.

Enactus George Brown Team competed at the 2019 Enactus Central Canada Regional Competitions. They entered all 5 categories and competed with 36 other colleges and universities across Central Canada.

At the "RBC Future Launch Project Acceleration Pitch" competition, our "Youth Going Forward" Project won $3,750 direct funding from RBC. At the "TD Entrepreneurship Challenge" League A, our "Youth Going Forward" Project won the 2nd runner-up, only behind Laurentien University and Lambton College (the 2018 Enactus World Champion). Congratulations to "Youth Going Forward" Project Team: Luisa Intrevado, Neil Qiu, Sandra Adderley-Melbou, John Ayemoba, Genia Melbourne and Nada Saklawi.

HRPA’s Annual HR Case Competition

The Case Competition is for enthusiastic students who want to flex their HR knowledge by applying it to real HR scenarios. Through healthy competition, students will grow as professionals and build best-in-class HR competencies.

GBC School of Human Resources Student Team won 2nd place in the HR Case Competition 2017. The team demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge of HR and business-related principles, exuded a high level of professionalism in their presentation and a strong team spirit.

The team of Andrea Conway, Samantha Doedens, Janine Santos Da Silva, Avery Averion and Catherine Roseto, Julie Bulmash (Coordinator and Coach) and Angie Gorassi (Coordinator and Coach) beat out University of Toronto (St. George), University of Toronto (Scarborough), York University, Seneca, Centennial, and Sheridan Colleges. Ryerson University came in first place and Sheridan College came in third.

Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition

OCMC is a student-focused learning experience that provides participants the ability to demonstrate their essential, vocational and employability skills before industry professionals.

George Brown College business students finished first in three categories at the 38th edition of the Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition 2018. Our students placed 1st, 3rd and 4th in Quiz Bowl, 1st in Integrated Marketing Communications, 1st in Marketing Strategy, 3rd in Job Interview and 5th in International Marketing.

SAS Global Forum's Student Symposium

The SAS Global Forum Student Symposium competition is an opportunity for teams of two to four postsecondary students and a faculty adviser (professor) to showcase their skills and compete with other teams in the application of SAS Analytics in big data.

George Brown College won the first place in 2018 SAS Global Forum – one of the largest annual analytics conferences in North America. Analytics for Business Decision Making students, Annissa Rodriguez and Xavier Fu, supervised by Professor Allan Esser, were the only Canadian entrants and the only college program invited to present in Denver, Colorado. Their team, XA-OPP, developed a project “Development of a Text Mining Usage Case to Reduce the Skills Gap in College Program Design” (partnership with SAS Canada). It aims at reducing the gap between the skills taught in postsecondary education and the employment qualifications required in a job by way of ongoing monitoring of job postings and analysis of the most required expertise.

SAS Safe Roads Competition

SAS Canada, in partnership with Geotab and the Toronto Police Services, is hosting an analytics competition for local universities and colleges.

The Analytics for Business Decision Making Program (B412) entered two teams into a newly created College Analytics Competition in conjunction with SAS Canada, Toronto Police Services, and Geotab. The team of Corinne Begin Blanchet and Farid Rasi Mohammadi won in the finals. The “Safe Roads” competition used TPS and Geotab data overlays to map out fatal traffic accidents and provide the Police with useful recommendations on how to reduce fatalities across our city.

Vanier Cup

An inter-collegial marketing case competition involving colleges from across the country. This competition offers community college and CEGEP level Business Administration students a singular opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom to a true to life business experience.

The GBC team of Mercedes Burrowes, Mikala Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, have advanced to the finals of the 2019 Scotiabank/Vanier National Marketing Case Competition. The team took 4th place out of 36 college teams from across Canada.
