Biography

Sobia Khan is a registered dietitian and has been a professor at the Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts for the past 8 years. She received her BSc, Honours Biology & Pharmacology, from McMaster University and her MSc from the University of Toronto, Department of Nutritional Sciences. Her graduate research, conducted at The Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids), involved studying the growth and development of preterm infants from 10 neonatal intensive-care units across the GTA, relative to how they thrived on fortified human milk post-discharge.. She also served as research assistant in a series of hospital and university departments, including the Diabetes Clinic at Sick Kids, with the pharmacology division of Merck Frosst Canada, and has worked as a dietitian in the Diabetes Comprehensive Care Program at St. Michael’s Hospital.

She was also a principal investigator of an applied research study at GBC entitled “Community Nutrition Teaching Model Cultural-Specific Diabetes Education and Prevention”. This project was a collaboration with Research and Innovation at GBC, the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) and various community health centres in the GTA. She has published and been acknowledged in several journal articles, such as Pediatrics, the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, and the Canadian Journal of Diabetes. She is also a published author of a multicultural diabetes cookbook.
