As Chief Digital and Infrastructure Officer Dr. Nasir Kenea oversees Information Technology Services and Facilities Management Services. Integrating these two areas will provide a seamless experience in the teaching and learning environment, which is a key priority for Nasir, as well as advancing the goals of the college’s Strategy 2022, Vision 2030 plan.
Nasir brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership in digital transformation to George Brown College, including nearly 25 years of experience in increasingly progressive roles within the information and communications technology field.
Nasir was previously the Chief Information Officer for the City of Markham, where he was responsible for providing leadership regarding all aspects of information and communication technology, as well as managing all day-to-day technology functions and the city’s cyber security program. Nasir’s work gained international recognition for innovations developed under his leadership as part of Markham’s digital strategy when the city was named one of the Intelligent Communities Forum’s Top 7 Smart Communities for 2020. This work included numerous digital transformation initiatives such as expanding online voting and services, digital inclusion and literacy initiatives, bolstering partnerships with business, and supporting research and enabling innovation that advanced the City’s digital maturity.
Nasir earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Addis Ababa University, a Master of Science degree with honours from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, and a PhD from Free University of Berlin.
