Athletics Awards and Scholarships

To be considered for any of the awards listed below students must apply by selecting In-Course Scholarships through STU-VIEW and be enrolled full-time in an George Brown College Program. Student must be a George Brown College athlete.

2017-18 Athletic Expendable Scholarship Fund (George Brown College Scholarship Fund)

The Athletic Expandable Scholarship is available to students in academic year 2017-2018.

The following criteria must be met by the aplication:

  • Register full-time domestic/international student
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Member of a George Brown varsity, extramural, intramural or part-time staffing team
  • Member in good standing with his/her team in the Athletic and Recreation Department

Athletics and Recreation Scholarship

The Athletic Scholarship Fund Award is available to students in all programs in any year of study. Member in good standing with team.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.0 
  • Student must display financial need
  • Student must display work ethic, team play, willingness to participate in team functions, positive and supportive attitude and leadership skills
  • Student must be a role model

Class of 2010 Alumni Award  

GBC Alumni has donated funds for the establishment of the Class of 2010 Alumni Award. The award is available to students in their graduating year of study who have demonstrated excellence in athletics at GBC.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 
  • Student must display financial need

Extramural Award

Stephanie Pereira has donated funds for the establishment of the Extramural Award. The award is available to student’s participants of the Extramural Program in Athletics and Recreation.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Must maintain a passing grade in his/her program for a full academic year
  • Participate in a minimum of on Extramural event
  • Be in good standing with the Athletic Department
  • The student must exude positivity and school spirit
  • Student must embody a good team player/supporter and have an excellent work ethic, while being an excellent role model

Kim Ng Scholarship  

Kim Ng has donated funds for the establishment of the Kim Ng Scholarship. The award is available to varsity athlete on men or women's badminton team in in any year of study.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display work ethic, team play, willingness to participate in team functions, positive and supportive attitude and leadership skills
  • Student must be a role model

Michael "Pinball" Clemons Award - Athletics & Recreation

Michael "Pinball" Clemons Award - Athletics & Recreation has been estblished for students involed in Athletics.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Must have a GPA greater than 2.5
  • Must be member in good standing with Student Life Department and shown improvement in performance throughout year.
  • Must demonstrate: good sportsmanship, excellent team play, willingness to participate in department functions.

Varsity Athletics Scholarship

The Varsity Athletics Scholarship is available to varsity athlete on men or women's varsity teams in in any year of study.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must have a GPA over 2.0
  • Student must be able to perform at a high level of athletic excellence and demonstrate a positive attitude in both the academic and athletic environment.

Alex Barbier Bursary

The Alex Barbier Bursary is available to all registered students at George Brown College in any year of study for all programs.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student contribute to athletics or student life

Franklin (Frankie) Gyamfi Memorial Scholarship - Athletics

Ed Mark has donated funds for the establishment of the Franklin (Frankie) Gyamfi Memorial Scholarship- Athletics. This award is available for all registered students at George Brown College for all programs

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student has made a significant contribution to a team, athletics department or has helped improve the quality of life for a student(s) at George Brown College
  • Student must exude a positive and supportive attitude
