HUSKIES BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL ALL IN ACTION ON SUPER GAME DAY THIS SATURDAY

ergersggg

George Brown basketball and volleyball are all in action this Saturday as the Huskies host Super Game Day at St. James Gym. All four games will feature free Huskies t-shirts, noisemakers, popcorn, and superhero face painting! Basketball games are scheduled for 1 and 3pm, volleyball games for 6 and 8pm.

Men's (5-0, 1st east) and women's (3-1, 2nd east) basketball are both coming off blowout wins over Georgian, and have been rewarded for their quick starts with top-ten provincial rankings. The men are currently slotted as Ontario's number one team, while the women check in at number eight.

The men's team ranks second in the province in points, third in rebound margin, fourth in field goal percentage and first in offensive boards per game. The scoring attack has been incredibly balanced, as Liban Mohamed, Adam Costanzo, Kevon Guiseppi-Mascoe and Kingslee D'Silva are all averaging at least 12.6 points per game.

The women's team is second in the province in rebound margin per game, second in field goal percentage and fifth in steals per game. Their full-court pressure has been highly effective; Tianna Sullivan (17.5 ppg), Zae Sellers (13.8 ppg) and Kiyann Grimaldo (13.5 ppg) have led the way offensively.

Both the men's (2-2, 5th east) and women's (2-2, 5th east) volleyball teams sit at .500 on the season. The men are ranked tenth in the province, and the women appear to be among the most improved teams in the OCAA.

The men currently hold top-five rankings in digs per set (first), total attacks (second) and kills (fourth) with a high energy style of play. Yuseph Jackman and Vivek Mathimakki have led the way in expanded roles this season.

The women rank second in both service aces and service aces per set, while ranking eighth in total points. A trio of newcomers in Ashley Lau, Jessica Barrios and Beatriz Vilches have been huge, while returning outside hitter Tianna Samuel is in all-star form.

Basketball is taking on the St. Lawrence Vikings, while the Canadore Panthers visit Huskies volleyball.
