MEN’S BASKETBALL CLOSE SOLID 2017-18 CAMPAIGN WITH OCAA CHAMPIONSHIP LOSS TO LAMBTON

sdsff

George Brown men’s basketball closed what was an excellent 2017-18 season on Friday afternoon with a 92-84 loss to Lambton at the OCAA Championship.

The Huskies regular season was more than impressive, as George Brown went 18-2 while allowing the second-fewest points per game in Ontario and boasting a strong bench that often rolled ten deep. The program ranked among Ontario’s top-five in total rebounds, opponents field goal percentage, turnovers, offensive rebounds and field goal attempts. The only team that delivered them a loss over the 20-game season was Seneca.

Unfortunately for the Huskies that success didn’t carry into the season’s biggest games, as George Brown went cold from the field when it mattered most and were unable to overcome a tough championship draw. After falling to Humber in the opener, the Huskies stayed tight with Lambton in a back-and-forth affair all afternoon before the Lions pulled away late.

Pacing George Brown’s offence Friday afternoon was OCAA All-Star guard Dejazmatch James, who closed his historic Huskies career with a team-high 25 point performance. In addition to James, OCAA East Division Rookie of the Year Adam Costanzo was named the Huskies’ player of the match after posting an impressive 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite the tough end to the year, the program looks to have a bright future. The aforementioned Costanzo will head up a strong set of likely returnees, and there is no reason to think that George Brown can't get right back to the Provincial Championship game they played in in 2016-17.
