HUSKIES WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SET TO BATTLE NIAGARA IN OCAA CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER-FINALS

The 16-2 George Brown Huskies will face Niagara on Friday night to open the OCAA Championship.

George Brown women’s basketball (16-2, 1st east) will take on the Niagara Knights (15-6, 4th west) in the OCAA Championship quarter-finals tonight, opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Humber College.

The Huskies cleaned up at Thursday nights awards banquet, rewarded for an incredible turnaround this year. Tianna Sullivan and April Deus were named 1st Team All-Stars, Merrissa Moore earned an All-Rookie Team nod, Warren Williams collected East Division Coach of the Year and a CCAA Coach of Year Nomination and the Huskies were given their East Division Title, the programs first since 2009-10.

All that is now in the rearview as the Huskies enter the final eight for the first time since 2012-13. The veteran leadership of fifth-year Deus and fourth-year Sullivan will be crucial, and both have proven themselves more than up to the task thus far. The duo will have a chance to clearly assert themselves among the most dangerous pairings in not only Ontario but the country.

George Brown's high-pressure, full-court press defense has turned them into a nightmare defensively. The Huskies forced the third most turnovers in the province (16.8 a night) and they have been effective in transition off those steals, ranking tops in the OCAA at 14.8 made field goal attempts a night.

Niagara heads into the matchup winners of five straight, while the Huskies have won six of their past seven.
