HUSKIES ADAM COSTANZO NAMED OCAA EAST DIVISION ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, ALL-ROOKIE TEAM MEMBER

Freshman Huskies wing Adam Costanzo was rewarded on Thursday morning for an incredible rookie season, as he was named the OCAA’s East Division Rookie of the Year and an All-Rookie Team member.

The 6’5” Ottawa native established himself from the get-go, starting against La Cite in the season opener and pouring in 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field. Costanzo did not drop that momentum all year. He wound up in the starting lineup all but one game, and quickly became one of the most dangerous two-way presences in the division.

Costanzo eclipsed 20 points on three occasions and hit double-figures eleven times, while shooting 50% or better from the field an impressive 14 times. He was a lethal weapon in transition for a team that thrives in the open court; his ability to finish on the break was second to none.

Perhaps more important than his work offensively was his contribution on the defensive side of the ball, as Costanzo turned himself into an elite wing defender. He led the team on the glass, averaging 7.6 rebounds a night, as was number one in blocks, averaging nearly one a night. Costanzo’s ability to cover multiple positions and switch in the pick-and-roll is a big reason that George Brown heads into the Provincial Championship with Ontario’s second-rated defense.
