D’ARTANIEL JACKMAN, MERRISSA MOORE NAMED HUSKIES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

D’Artaniel Jackman (Men’s Volleyball)

For the second consecutive season Huskies outside hitter D’Artaniel Jackman was named to the OCAA All-Star team, and he followed that up with a strong performance at the OCAA Championship. Jackman finished with a team-high 17 kills in a tournament-opening loss to Redeemer, and was named the Huskies player of the game for the performance.  The 6’3” outside hitter came up with another 17 kill outing in a win over Fleming that sent George Brown into the consolation championship. Despite a tough loss to close the year, the program finishes the 2017-18 season ranked sixth in Ontario and with a bright future ahead of them.

Merrissa Moore (Women’s Basketball)

First-year Husky Merrissa Moore led the Huskies to a convincing 97-71 crossover win on Saturday afternoon, assuring the east’s top seed a spot in the OCAA Championship. Moore poured in a game-high 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor, including a blistering hot 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. With so much attention paid to George Brown’s high-scoring duo of Tianna Sullivan and Aprille Deus, Moore’s continued improved and ability to spread the floor will be crucial as ever come playoff time.

The Huskies will open the Provincial Championship on Friday, March 2 with a quarter-final matchup against the Niagara Knights. Opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
