GEORGE BROWN'S GARRETT MAY NAMED 2017-18 OCAA MEN’S VOLLEYBALL COACH OF THE YEAR

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

George Brown’s Garrett May has been named the 2017-18 OCAA Men’s Volleyball Coach of the Year in just his second season at the helm of the program.

May led the Huskies to a 13-5 regular season and their second consecutive OCAA Championship appearance this year, winning his second consecutive OCAA crossover playoff game this past weekend. The Huskies won 45 sets against just 24 losses during the regular season, and May’s arrival has coincided with the Huskies establishing themselves among not only the east division's but the OCAA’s elite.

After a regular season-opening loss to Georgian, the Huskies won 11 of their next 12 matches including six straight-set wins. Emphasizing a next man up mentality, the four-time OUA All-Star, OUA Player and Rookie of the Year has built one of the deepest rosters in the OCAA with a difficult to defend style of play. George Brown had six players who averaged at least 2.1 points per set, and three players named to the 2017-18 All-Star team.

May has overseen a program that now ranks is among the top-five in the majority of Ontario's major statistical categories, including ranking first in assists (693), second in digs per set (10.64), third in kills per set (10.90), third in points per set (14.6), fourth in total digs (734) and fifth in service aces (120).

Over his two season’s May now has a 23-13 regular season record, has won two crossover playoff games and will look for his first OCAA Championship win this afternoon. He is clearly among the best young coaches in the game and a true leader for the program.

George Brown opens the OCAA Championship today at 1 p.m. against Redeemer, follow @GBC_Huskies on twitter for updates throughout the match.
