No. 1 PROGRAM IN CANADA, HUSKIES BADMINTON CAPTURE MEN'S, WOMEN'S TEAM TITLE AND PAIR OF GOLD MEDALS AT OCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

George Brown badminton capped what was an incredible weekend by winning two gold medals at the Provincial Championship on Saturday afternoon and qualifying in four of five disciplines for the CCAA National Championship.

The Huskies performance means they head to Nationals as Canada's top-ranked program, the Ontario team title holders on both the Men's and Women's side of things.

ANH HOANG - 2018 OCAA WOMEN’S SINGLES BADMINTON CHAMPION

 Anh Hoang won the women’s singles title with a straight-sets victory over Fanshawe’s Riley Hogan 2-0 (25-11, 25-16). Hoang had been named to the OCAA All-Star team on Friday morning, and her title guarantees her spot at the National Championship.

ACE ZENG - 2018 OCAA MEN’S SINGLES BADMINTON CHAMPION

Ace Zeng won the men’s singles title with a win over St. Clair’s Henry Andkilde 2-1 (21-13, 17-21, 21-14). Zeng was named the 2018 OCAA Male Badminton Player of the Year, a CCAA All-Canadian and an OCAA All-Star on Friday morning. Zeng will be headed to the National Championship with the gold medal. 

ANGELINE ALVIAR & YUNJI KIM - 2018 OCAA WOMEN’S DOUBLES BADMINTON SILVER MEDALLIST

Angeline Alviar and Yunji Kim won the women’s doubles silver medal, falling to Humber’s Chloe Rowe and Elizabeth Duong 2-0 (21-18, 21-10) in the final. Both Alviar and Kim were named OCAA All-Stars on Friday morning, and the duo is headed to the National Championship thanks to their appearance in the finals.

MIKE RUB YA & AMY DING - 2018 OCAA MIXED DOUBLES BADMINTON SILVER MEDALLIST

Mike Rub Ya and Amy Ding win the mixed doubles silver medal, falling to Humber’s Yuying Qu and Arpit Tanej 2-0 (21-13, 21-19) in the final. The duo has qualified for the National Championship thanks to their appearance in the finals.

ALEX CHAO & YANG JIN - 2018 OCAA MEN’S DOUBLES BADMINTON BRONZE MEDALLIST

Alex Chao and Yang Jin won the men’s doubles bronze medal after a win over UTM’s Gary Kwok-Chun Tin & Thanh Tran-Lam 2-1 (18-21, 21-6, 21-12). Both Alex and Yang were named OCAA All-Stars on Friday morning.
