George Brown volleyball will play host to the Centennial Colts on Saturday afternoon at St. James Campus, with the women’s game getting underway at 1 p.m. and men at 3 p.m.

The men’s team (11-4, 2nd east) are looking to assure themselves the east’s second seed heading into crossover weekend, and a win over the Colts would go a long way towards accomplishing that goal. The Huskies currently sit two games up on Canadore for second spot, and will face the Panthers a week Saturday.

George Brown figures to be buoyed by the return of Vivek Mathimakki, who returned against Georgian and made an immediate impact at the outside hitter position - he finished with nine points, seven kills and two digs. Mathimakki’s ability to finish at the net fits in perfectly with an already dangerous front line that includes OCAA All-Star D’Artaniel Jackman, middle Ahmed Youssef, Ray Tantengco and Neon Ng.

Centennial heads into the matchup with a record of 6-8.

The women’s team (0-15, 10th east) have been much improved since the winter semester began, with additions like Kelsey-Jane Lamprecht and Nicole Poupart playing an outsized role in the stronger play. The Huskies have been in several matches down the stretch and appear primed to pull a game or two out.

First-year head coach Daphne Choi continues to implement her style of play, and as the year has gone on George Brown has improved in many facets of the game. The final stretch of the season will continue to be a  momentum builder as the program looks toward the future.
