Huskies volleyball open the second half on Saturday with a trip to Loyalist. Women's game begins a 1 p.m., men's at 3 p.m.

George Brown volleyball returns to the court on Saturday looking to kick the second half of the regular season off strong against Loyalist.

The men’s team (7-2, 2nd east) are an impressive 4-1 on the road, and swept Loyalist 3-0 earlier in the season. Under the guidance of second-year head coach Garrett May, the Huskies have turned themselves into one of the province’s elite attacking units. George Brown currently ranks thirds in kills per set (11.06), fourth in kills (376), second in assists (360) and third in points per set (14.6).

Much of the Huskies success has come thanks to a balanced attack in which six players are averaging 2.3 points per set or more. Led by OCAA All-Star D’Artaniel Jackman (4.0 pts/s), Ray Tantengco, Neon Ng and middle Ahmed Youssef, George Brown has been elite at the net. The Huskies seven wins include four sweeps, and they went toe-to-toe with division-leading Georgian in the season opener.

With upcoming games against rivals Durham and Algonquin next on the docket, getting the semester off to a quick start is key. Fleming is currently 2-6.

The women’s team (0-9, 10th east) have a tough test against the 8-1 Lancers. Despite a winless first half, the Huskies have looked better as the season has worn on, playing Algonquin and Fleming well.

The Huskies have been led by outside hitter Julia Vit, who is averaging a team-best 2.2 points per set along with a team-best 60 digs. Kelsey-Jane Lamprecht and Nicole Poupart have returned action and figure to play crucial roles during the second half.

Women’s game gets underway at 1 p.m., men’s at 3 p.m. Follow @GBC_Huskies on twitter for updates throughout the day.
