Throughout the month of November, George Brown Athletics will be raising funds in support of Movember. Spectators are encouraged to donate at the gate, and every Huskies home game will feature prizing with proceeds from the night going to support men’s health. The basketball and volleyball teams will be wearing special #Movember warm-up t-shirts in support.

George Brown volleyball opens the 2017-18 season at home on Friday night, playing host to the Georgian Grizzlies at St. James Campus.

The men’s team is coming off their most successful season in years, a campaign that saw George Brown host and win a crossover playoff game while qualifying for the provincial championship. The Huskies return many key pieces from that team, led by OCAA All-Star D’Artaniel Jackman, setter Pradeep Bhogal and middle Ahmed Youssef.

Head coach Garrett May heads into his second season leading the program. The former OUA Player and Rookie of the Year will look to continue instilling his aggressive style of play; George Brown ranked fourth in the province in digs (622), fifth in the province in assists (675), and sixth in total attacks (1,868) in 2016-17.

The Grizzlies will provide a strong early-season measuring stick, as they head into Friday’s action a perfect 3-0 and nationally ranked.

The women’s program is set to play under newly appointed head coach Daphne Choi, who served as an assistant last year and stepped into the lead role this summer. Leading the group of returnees is outside hitter Julia Vit; the 6’0” Ajax native averaged nearly two points per set, finished with 118 points and thirteen service aces.

Other key players coming back include Kesley-Jane Lamprecht, Nicole Poupart and Yu Ting Liao.

The women’s game gets underway at 6pm, men’s game at 8pm. Click here to watch live, or follow @GBC_Huskies on twitter for updates throughout the night.
