WOMEN’S SOCCER LOOK TO COMPLETE SWEEP OF UTM IN FINAL GAME OF 2017

Effie Takas (10) has scored five goals over the past two seasons with the Huskies women's soccer team.

George Brown women’s soccer (1-8, 5th central) will close the 2017 campaign tonight when they visit the UTM Eagles at South Field.

The season started out promisingly enough, as the Huskies played three tight games that included a home-opening win over UTM and a toe-to-toe matchup with a strong Sheridan program. For a variety of reasons that momentum was not carried into the middle portion of the year, and George Brown suffered a string of tough defeats that knocked them out of playoff contention.

Among the positives coming out of this year, freshmen striker Kayla Rinaldis Marziliano was a force, netting two goals and playing an aggressive style of soccer. Goodwood native Natalie Mangos was solid on both sides of the ball, while Farrah Sheikh filled in admirably in net when needed.

Injuries played a role in derailing the year, as key pieces Marziliano, keeper Kelsey-Jane Lamprecht, and striker Effie Takas missed portions of the year for a variety of reasons. Staying healthy will be key for the Huskies come indoor season.

George Brown is looking to complete the season sweep of the Eagles for the second consecutive year.

Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30pm, follow @GBC_Huskies on twitter for updates throughout the afternoon.
