HUSKIES BASEBALL TO CELEBRATE HERITAGE DAY AGAINST ST. CLAIR IN MATINEE DOUBLEHEADER

091

In celebration of 50 years of sport at George Brown, each Huskies varsity program will be celebrating Heritage Night during one regular season game/invitational during the 2017/18 season. These dates will include the Huskies wearing throwback jerseys from the programs most successful era, alumni on-hand and special throwback promotions.

On Saturday, the Huskies baseball program continues the Heritage Day series against the St. Clair Saints. The team will recognize the Huskies program that competed in the Canadian Intercollegiate Baseball Association (CIBA) in the early 2000’s.

George Brown baseball (3-13, 5th OCAA) will look to carry the momentum from their biggest win of the season into Saturday’s doubleheader with the St. Clair Saints.

Look for John Lamanna to get the game one start, coming off a three up, three down close against the Lords. Lamanna has gotten stronger as the season has progressed, logging a team-best 26.1 innings while striking out 21 batters. The 6’1” righty has posted an era of 4.25, and has not given up a run in three of his seven appearances.

Offensively, Che Andrews and Robin Fox-Pappas will look to close impressive seasons at the plate out strong. First baseman Andrews is now hitting .383 on the season, with a .489 slugging percentage and eight runs driven in in a team-high 47 at-bats. Fox-Pappas line of .395-.549-.579 is among the best in the province, and he also has eight RBI’s on the season.

Jake Benjamin had a monster day at the plate last time out, with two solo shots in his first two plate appearances. The shortstop has hit the ball hard all season, and he's looking to finish what has been an impressive 2017 campaign the right way.

Game one is scheduled to get underway at 1pm, game two at 3pm.

Both games will be streamed live, click here to watch. Follow @GBC_Huskies on twitter for updates throughout the day.
