This Friday George Brown Athletics kicks off 50th
Athletics Homecoming with #GBConnect: Beyond the Bench, featuring an impressive
set of speakers in the Casa Loma Campus Athletic Centre.
Tessa Bonhomme won an Olympic Gold Medal with the
Canadian women’s hockey team in the 2010 Games in Vancouver. The Sudbury native
played her collegiate hockey at Ohio State, where she was the Buckeyes Most
Valuable Freshmen and the first player from the program named both the WCHA
Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Her broadcasting career
includes a stint with Leafs TV, and she currently hosts TSN’s SportsCentre.
Jack Armstrong is a broadcaster for the Toronto
Raptors, appearing on both TSN and NBA TV Canada. The Brooklyn native was the
head coach of Niagara University from 1989 to 1998, and he was named the New
York State Division I Coach of the Year in 1992-93. His signature “Hello!” has
made him a trademark voice in the city, and he has hosted a sports talk show on
the Fan 590.
Other speakers include Vice President and Managing
Director of NBA Canada Dan Mackenzie, Justin Bobb of MLSE Launchpad, Mark
Palmer of Blue Jays Corporate Partnerships, and Rebecca Michael, Director of
