If you are not a full-time student at George Brown but you are
interested in taking selected English and/or math courses through Continuing
Education, you will be required to take the GEA and/or GMA to ensure that you
register in the course appropriate to your skill level.
You will need to take a GEA if you want to register
for any of the following courses, and you have not completed the required
prerequisite courses:
COMM 1008 College
English
ENGL 1030 Skills for College
English
ENGL 9030 English
Essentials
You will need to take a GMA if you
want to register for any of the following courses, and you have not completed
the required prerequisite courses:
MATH 1103 Hospitality
Mathematics
MATH 1074
Mathematics

Plan to take the assessment before registering for a
course, as there may be a fee for withdrawing from a course. For

Education.
The assessment will take place at the St. James Campus (200 King St. E) in room 275A.
You may book your GEA or GMA via the Contact Centre (416-415-2000) or in person at an Assessment Centre Location. You will be required to have a George Brown student number before you can book an assessment. If you do not have one, please visit the Student Service Centre.
Please note that online (STU VIEW) booking is not available for this assessment.
GEA (General English Assessment)
The GEA consists of an Essay and the ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension Test.
GMA (General Math Assessment)
Students planning to take MATH 1074 Mathematics will be required to take the ACCUPLACER Arithmetic Math Test.
Students planning to take MATH 1103 Hospitality Mathematics will be required to take the Hospitality Math Test.

Immediately after you complete your assessment(s), you will meet with an Assessment Advisor, who will go over your results, explain what courses are available to you based on those results and give you a letter indicating which course you are eligible to take.
