The Young Centre for the Performing Arts

  • Home of the well-respected George Brown Theatre School and the acclaimed Soulpepper Theatre Company
  • A joint-venture partnership between George Brown College and the Soulpepper Theatre Company
  • Designed by Thomas Payne, Principal Architect - Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects
  • Spearheaded by a generous donation by The Michael Young Family Foundation, the Province of Ontario and numerous other generous donors
  • Located in Tankhouse 9 and 10 in the Distillery Historic District
  • The Young Centre for the Performing Arts is a 45,565 square-foot facility that will feature:
    • 5 performing arts spaces, ranging in size from 80 to 400 seats
      • 400-seat Charles and Marilyn Baillie Theatre
      • 250-seat Michael Young Theatre
      • 100-seat Studio Theatre
      • 100-seat Cabaret space
    • Production and administrative facilities
    • Box Office
    • 9 teaching and rehearsal studios
    • a costume shop
    • a spacious lobby and café
    • an outdoor artists' garden/performance venue

The George Brown Theatre School

  • The graduating class performs in five productions annually, ranging from
    classical to contemporary plays and one production for young audiences
  • 3 productions will be performed in the Young Centre in the 2005/2006 season
