The Grads
BRIAN BISSON
Born in Brantford, Ontario, Brian is proud to be part of the 2003 graduating class. The son of a retired police officer, Brian has been acting his entire life. Reassuring his dad that he hadn't 'lost his mind', Brian had the opportunity to play Captain Hook in PETER PAN, The Musicalbefore moving on to theatre school. Favourite roles at George Brown include Demetrius in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, Brutus in JULIUS CAESAR, Happy in DEATH OF A SALESMAN, Alexi in A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY and most recently Macheath in THE THREEPENNY OPERA directed by Mark Wilson.
STEVE BLAXALL
Growing up in the small town of Elimira, Ontario, Steve spent most of his time playing baseball and chasing girls. When he sadly realized that a professional baseball career wasn't going to happen, he decided to focus on a career in the more stable field of professional acting. This naturally made his parents very happy, especially his dad who was always afraid he'd come home a lawyer. After years onstage in high school productions, enter George Brown stage left. A tremendous thank you to all the faculty and my fellow students for the last three years and all you've given me. Steve is currently preparing to play Joe Pitt in George Brown's production of ANGELS IN AMERICA. This part's for you dad!
Steve Blaxall
BRENT BUCHANAN
Brent grew up in small town Manitoba and began his theatrical career as Sheep #3 in ONE HOLY NIGHT in grade three. A bit ironic, that for the next twenty years he lay awake counting sheep, contemplating if he should become an actor. Decision made and suitcase packed, he arrived at George Brown. Some of his favourite roles include Aesop in AESOP'S ADVENTURE, Lee in TRUE WEST, Richard in RICHARD III, Joe in CRACKWALKER and most recently Matt of the Mint in THE THREEPENNY OPERA directed by Mark Wilson. Brent looks forward to his upcoming role as Roy Cohn in Tony Kushner's ANGELS IN AMERICA. Brent would like to thank his family and friends for their love and support.
MONICA CORREA
Born and raised in Toronto, Monica is delighted to be graduating from George Brown College. Selected roles have included Emilia in OTHELLO, Neysa Nicea in AESOP'S ADVENTURE, Christine/Sherry in LION IN THE STREETS, Stella in THE RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL, Raina in ARMS AND THE MAN and Patsy in PERFECT PIE. Monica looks forward to the upcoming season at George Brown and can't wait to be a part of Canada's growing theatre scene.
LARA COTNAM
Before George Brown, Lara graduated with a B.A. Honours in Drama from Queen's University. Credits from Queen's include: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM; CRIMINALS IN LOVE; SCOTT OF THE ANTARCTIC; THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH; NOT WANTED ON THE VOYAGE. Upon graduation Lara was eager to continue her study of acting at George Brown. Favorite roles have included Viola in TWELFTH NIGHT, Electra Dancealopolus in AESOP'S ADVENTURE, Natalya in A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY, Catherine in ARMS AND THE MAN and most recently, Betty in THE THREEPENNY OPERA. She is thrilled to be playing Harper in the upcoming ANGELS IN AMERICA.
RACHEL CRUWYS
Rachel is proud to say that she was born and raised a country girl. It came as a shock to her family that a career in the theatre seemed to be her future. It's something they couldn't shake out of her no matter how hard they tried. Rachel has enjoyed a wide variety of roles during her years at George Brown, some of the highlights are: Rosalind in AS YOU LIKE IT; Mrs. Jackson in THE RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL; Donna in PATIENCE; Lucy Brown in THE THREEPENNY OPERA; and the challenging role of the Priest in David Mamet's A SERMON. In the upcoming ANGELS IN AMERICA she will be taking on Rabbi Isidor Chemelwitz.
CHRIS DARROCH
Born and raised in Toronto's east end, Chris discovered and fell in love with theatre while in high school. Before coming to George Brown, he appeared across the city in productions such as ROMEO AND JULIET, HAMLET and MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING. He also had the good luck to be involved in two Toronto Fringe shows; A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM PROJECT (Summer 2000); and BACCHAE (Summer 2001). At George Brown Chris has played such diverse roles as Eustace in THE RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL, Michel in A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY, Eddie in LION IN THE STREETS and Tiger Brown in THE THREEPENNY OPERA. He would like to thank his friends, family and above all, colleagues for their inspiration and support.
SARAH DAVEY
Sarah is happy to be finishing up her formal schooling. As a teenager, Sarah began thinking of a career in theatre as an escape from her eccentric family and their hundreds of pets. While attending the Theatre Aquarius Arts program she discovered other quirky folk. After a B.A. Honours from Guelph University, Sarah's love for Canadian theatre as well as appreciation of the theatrical craft, led her to George Brown. Favourite roles include, Sister Terry (TONY 'N TINA'S WEDDING), Edna (WAITING FOR LEFTY), Antona (THE TOOTHBRUSH), the Specialist TOMMY), Lucy (THE RECRUITING OFFICER), Kit Kat Girl (CABARET), Joyce (YOU BELONG TO ME) and Mrs. Peachum (THREEPENNY OPERA).
MATTHEW DAVIS
Originally from Kingston, Ontario, Matthew has found his time at George Brown Theatre School exhilarating. After completing the role of Mr. Peachum in Brecht/Weill's THE THREEPENNY OPERA, Matthew is looking forward to the remainder of this season. Past credits include: Artie in HURLY BURLY; Christy Mahon in THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD (for which he won the Leonard Beaulne Award for Best Actor in the Eastern Ontario Drama Festival); the Fool in KING LEAR; Claudius in HAMLET; Trilitski in PLATONOV. Matthews thanks his family for all their support and his classmates for keeping school interesting, entertaining and invigorating. Cheers!
MICHAEL FARRELL
Born and raised on the East Coast of Canada, Michael graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island before coming to George Brown. Recent George Brown credits include: Cassio in OTHELLO; Murk in DRUMS IN THE NIGHT; Sergius in ARMS AND THE MAN; Osip in PLATONOV; Edmond in EDMOND; and Walt Dreary in THE THREEPENNY OPERA. Michael is excited to be playing Louis in George Brown's upcoming production of ANGELS IN AMERICA. He would like to thank his family and friends for their continued support.
RYAN FIELD
Born and raised in Toronto, Ryan studied Violin at the Royal Conservatory of Music and Viva Voce Voice Studio. Recently he played the young Leon Phelps in the feature film LADIES MAN. His TV work includes SYSTEM CRASH for YTV, educational videos and several commercials. Ryan was pleased to be a member of the Soulpepper Company this summer playing Crispen in A CHORUS OF DISAPPROVAL, directed by Albert Schultz; Walt Dreary and Dolly Trull in THE BEGGAR'S OPERA, directed by Ted Dykstra; and a Sicilian Servant and Shepherd in THE WINTER'S TALE, directed by Joseph Ziegler. Recently he played Crooked Fingered Jake in GB's THE THREEPENNY OPERA directed by Mark Wilson.
JENNIFER FRANCHUK
Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, prior to making the decision to train at George Brown. Some favourite roles from the past two years include Violet in THE RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL, Sasha in PLATONOV and Sherry in LION IN THE STREETS. Jenn looks forward to her upcoming role as Harper in ANGELS IN AMERICA this February and is very excited to be graduating in the spring.
ATHENA LAMARRE
Athena was born and raised in San Francisco until she was six. Upon her arrival to Toronto, her mother introduced her to the theatre and by the age of nine, she had made her theatrical debut. Career highlights include: gracing the cover of Toronto's eye magazine for the title role in UBU THE BARBARIAN; Kit in TOP GIRLS; Dicky in UNDER MILK WOOD. GBC favourites are: Jenny in THREEPENNY OPERA; Cecily in THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST; Viola in TWELFTH NIGHT. Besides theatre, Athena also indulges in the art of Circus and specializes in Ariel Hoop and Single Trapeze. Athena is ecstatic to be re-entering the universe she had bid farewell to for three years of action-packed fun at George Brown.
BOBBIE MAXWELL
Bobbie is very happy to be graduating from George Brown this spring. She recently had the extreme pleasure of playing Polly Peachum in THE THREEPENNY OPERA. Though there have been many memorable moments these last three years, her favourite roles include Theresa (CRACKWALKER), Anna Petrovna (PLATONOV), Miss Prism (THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST), and Olivia (TWELFTH NIGHT). Prior to life at George Brown, Bobbie also appeared as Eve, in the Canadian premiere of Stephen Schwartz's CHILDREN OF EDEN. While she enjoys city life immensely, Bobbie will always find home on Lake Temagami where she learned many valuable life lessons "Take care always, and wear warm socks."
DEANNA SOMERS
Deanna was raised in Newmarket, Ontario before settling in Toronto and entering the world of George Brown. Over the past two years she has enjoyed a taste of such roles as Luka in ARMS AND THE MAN, Vera in A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY, Gwendolyn in THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, and Mary in THE MELVILLE BOYS. She greatly looks forward to tackling the role of Hannah Pit in the upcoming production of ANGELS IN AMERICA at George Brown in February. Deanna would like to thank everyone who continues to love and support her.
DYLAN TAYLOR
Dylan may not be a smart man, but he knows what love is. A Toronto native, Dylan spent his childhood exploring his two loves - storytelling and competition. But, after a humiliating defeat in the big storytelling competition of '88, Dylan vowed never to indulge in either again. However, in his last year of high school he acted in Daniel MacIvor's NEVER SWIM ALONE, a theatrical wonderland of competitive storytelling. Shortly after this triumph, Dylan found himself at George Brown. They took him in, cleaned him up and even allowed him to play such parts as Bolshinsov in A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY, Angus in THE DRAWER BOY and most recently the shifty Warden Smith in THE THREEPENNY OPERA. ROBERT WATSON

Favourite roles at George Brown include Jack in THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST; Edgar in KING LEAR; Tom in KILT and Filch in THE THREEPENNY OPERA. In February he looks forward to playing Prior Walter in George Brown's production of ANGELS IN AMERICA. In his spare time, Robert indulges in the culinary arts, the outdoors and in writing short biographies about himself in the third person.
