About Us

Toronto is the third-largest English language theatre community in the world and ranks third in film and television production in North America.

Toronto is home to more than 180 theatre companies; in any given month, approximately 75 productions are on-stage throughout the city. Annual revenue from the theatre business is more than $130 million.

Every year, the George Brown Theatre School receives more than 700 applications for 32 coveted spots in our first-year class. Applicants come from across Canada, many with university degrees already in hand. The reason students come to the George Brown Theatre School is simple; we offer the best conservatory training available, providing the finest training and skills required by a working actor.

"If these students (George Brown Theatre School) are any indication of what Toronto audiences can look forward to, the future of the city's theatre scene is very bright indeed." -- RACHEL GIESE (EYE MAGAZINE)

"The company (George Brown Theatre School) creates a world of youthful high spirits, flirtation, and heart-felt truths that compares favorably with the best I've seen". -- Jon Kaplan, NOW Magazine

"The students we auditioned showed a sensitivity to text that is, honestly, refreshing. We found each of them to be thoroughly professional in their approach to their work and open, relaxed, friendly and focused during the interviews. They gave what, on reflection, we recognized as very cultured, crafted performances. Frankly, we were 'bowled over' by their self-evident dedication and accomplishment." -- Dave Armour, Gairbraid Theatre Project

The proof of that assertion is that George Brown Theatre School graduates work. They are found on theatre stages and film and television sets across North America. Look in the playbills at the Stratford and Shaw Festivals, Soulpepper Theatre Company, Canadian Stage Company, Mirvish Productions, Tarragon Theatre, Theatre Passe Muraille or any of Canada's leading regional theatres and you will find our graduates listed.

In September 2005 we moved to the Young Centre for the Performing Arts complex which offers a host of benefits to our students. We already boast the finest faculty in the country and our advisory committee reads like a Who's Who of the performing arts industry. Thanks to the Theatre School's many supporters, we will now have a world-class facility to match.

With over 30 years of training actors, our mandate remains constant: to attract and train the finest young talent for their future careers as outstanding professional actors. The Young Centre allows us to showcase these emerging artists and further expand our curriculum.

There has never been a more exciting time to be a part of the George Brown Theatre School. We are taking centre stage like never before!
