"This generous donation will contribute to the positive educational environment for students, faculty and staff," says Ann Smiley, President, George Brown College Foundation. "With the support of Canada's leading international bank, George Brown Theatre School will continue to uphold its bold vision of student excellence. On behalf of the Foundation I thank HSBC Bank Canada for their leadership in establishing the HSBC Scholarship Endowment Fund to help our students complete their education and realize their dreams."

"HSBC has a long history of supporting the communities where we live and work. Through this donation, we are offering promising actors and actresses an opportunity to pursue their passion for theatre," said Sean O'Sullivan, Chief Operating Officer, HSBC Bank Canada. "I hope to see HSBC Scholarship recipients at other HSBC-supported venues such as the Shaw Festival or CanStage in the future."

Half of this gift has been matched through the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund (OSOTF) and half will be matched under the recently-announced Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS). With the matching funds, this will create an endowment totaling $200,000, which will provide student awards in perpetuity.
