Toronto, ON, November 17, 2005 - HSBC Bank Canada will
donate $100,000 to the George Brown College Foundation over two years
to establish
the HSBC Scholarship Endowment Fund. The Fund will provide scholarships
for outstanding students with financial need in the George Brown Theatre
School.

"This generous donation will contribute to the positive educational
environment for students, faculty and staff," says Ann Smiley,
President, George Brown College Foundation. "With the support of
Canada's leading international bank, George Brown Theatre School
will continue to uphold its bold vision of student excellence. On behalf
of the Foundation I thank HSBC Bank Canada for their leadership in establishing
the HSBC Scholarship Endowment Fund to help our students complete their
education and realize their dreams."

and actresses an opportunity to pursue their passion for theatre," said
Sean O'Sullivan, Chief Operating Officer, HSBC Bank Canada. "I
hope to see HSBC Scholarship recipients at other HSBC-supported venues
such as the Shaw Festival or CanStage in the future."
Half of this gift has been matched through the Ontario Student Opportunity
Trust Fund (OSOTF) and half will be matched under the recently-announced
Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS). With the matching funds, this
will create an endowment totaling $200,000, which will provide student
awards in perpetuity.

The Theatre School at George Brown College has earned a national reputation
as the leading training ground for new talent. In offering Canada's
top, three-year intensive actor training
program, the Theatre School
has emerged as the source of talented artists at work on stages, and
film and television sets across North America, including the Stratford
and Shaw Festivals, CBC Television and Broadway. As of August 2005, the
Young Centre for the Performing
Arts, a new, world-class teaching and
performance facility became the permanent home of the George Brown Theatre
School. Located in the heart of Toronto's Distillery Historic District,
it is the first theatre facility of its kind in Canada. The Young Centre
is a one-of-a-kind joint venture between George Brown College and the
nationally acclaimed Soulpepper Theatre Company.
