STRENGTH THROUGH DIVERSITY— Toronto, ON - Toronto's George Brown College and Chitkara Educational Trust (Chitkara), based in Chandigarh, India, announced today they will partner to provide exceptional opportunities for students in India, while exposing George Brown College students to unique international perspectives. Launching in August, the joint program will provide students with dual credentials - graduates will gain both a Computer Systems Technology diploma from George Brown College and an accredited Bachelor of Computer Applications degree from Chitkara. Students will study for two years at Chitkara in India and then complete their final year at George Brown College in Toronto, with the option available to those students who qualify to join a one year, post graduation work program. Planning is already underway to expand the partnership between the two schools in 2007, with additional programs in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Hospitality Operations Management. "George Brown College is already a preferred destination for many international students, and this partnership will further increase our draw for students from India," says Anne Sado, President of George Brown College. "The international exposure that George Brown College students will gain is an important advantage in a global economy, while employers operating in India will benefit directly from an increased supply of workplace-ready grads." According to Joy McKinnon, the senior manager at George Brown College who led the development of the partnership, increasing diversity among an already culturally diverse student and staff population provides tangible benefits for George Brown College students. "Through their interactions with each other, faculty and employers, Chitkara and George Brown College students will exchange valuable insights and work together with companies from sectors that are critical to both the Indian and Canadian economies. Employers value graduates with practical experience in working with international peers, especially in a city as diverse as Toronto," says McKinnon. For parents and students in India, the announcement of the George Brown College - Chitkara partnership offers another high quality choice as they consider options for post-secondary study. "As a viable alternative to completing an entire program of study abroad, this is an especially valuable and affordable option for an international education," says Mohit Chitkara, Vice President of Chitkara. The George Brown College - Chitkara partnership highlights diversity and international collaboration - through off-shore programming, faculty exchange and study abroad - something much sought after by international employers. McKinnon sees that as a compelling reason for George Brown College's continued leadership in creating international opportunities for students. "Ultimately, students who come to George Brown College from Chitkara will enhance their personal and professional capacity by experiencing a new academic and professional environment. In return, these students will enrich their Canadian counterparts by deepening their understanding of India's culture." For more information, visit www.georgebrown.ca About Chitkara Educational Trust
