For Immediate Release:

"As the City Sleeps"- Art Show profiling the city at night produced by George Brown College students in collaboration with the Eastern Front Gallery

Opening Night for "As the City Sleeps"- an innovative art show featuring new works from a number of professional artists will take place on November 16, 2005 at the Eastern Front Gallery, located at 750 Queen Street East. This art show is being produced by students from George Brown College in collaboration with the Eastern Front Gallery. The artwork featured is concerned with the theme of night views of the city and searches for answers to the question of: what goes on after dark?!

The students from George Brown College are in the Arts and Entertainment Marketing course, which is one of the electives in the Marketing Administration Program. As a large determinant of their final grade, the students have the task of producing an art show in partnership with the Eastern Front Gallery, a local not-for-profit art gallery and arts centre. The students were provided with broad project plan and have been required to think of a creative way to execute the project from their perspective. They have been responsible for creating the theme and for promoting the art show. They have also participated in the selection of the artists for the show through a jury process which was overseen by Jane Brooks, the curator of the Eastern Front Gallery.

Professor Barry Wallace, who is supervising the students producing the Art Show commented, "This is a great opportunity for the students involved to showcase their many marketing skills while creating an interesting artistic project which helps both the Eastern Front Gallery work towards its mission and contributes to the cultural life of the broader community which we live and work in." The five students involved have all commented on how much they have been able to learn by enacting a project in this manner, and Professor Barry Wallace adds that it's another example of the idea and implementation of the "living classroom," a view on education that has students learning by doing.

"As the City Sleeps" will run from November 16 through to November 26 at the Eastern Front Gallery at 750 Queen Street East. Opening Night is on November 16 with the doors opening at 6pm. Any additional information or details can be obtained by e-mailing asthecitysleeps@gmail.com.
