GEORGE BROWN COLLEGE THEATRE SCHOOL CELEBRATES
THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH 25 YEARS OF MUNSCH FUN
TORONTO (November 4, 2011) – This holiday season, the George Brown Theatre School celebrates 25 years of its annual children’s show with It’s Munsch Time, a colourful and exciting one-hour musical show based on five popular Robert Munsch stories: Class Clown, David’s Father, From Far Away, I’m So Embarrassed and A Promise is a Promise.
For a quarter of a century, the annual children’s show has been providing thousands of Greater Toronto Area children with their first taste live theatre at a George Brown College. In turn, second year student actors performing in the show are given the invaluable experience of performing before hundreds of young people, teaching them the importance of engagement with an audience and projection in a large space.
As Canada’s bestselling author, Robert Munsch has been delighting readers around the world for 30 years with his colourful characters and zany situations. Fourteen weekday performances of It’s Munsch Time have already sold out.
Director Tom Diamond is a Dora Award and Chalmers Award winning artist. Diamond has won international acclaim for the premieres of Chan Ka Nin’s Iron Road (Dora Award) and Timothy Sullivan’s Florence the Lady with the Lamp (Chalmers Award); five productions for Pacific Opera Victoria; and nine for the Canadian Opera Company. His production ofSquonk was an off-Broadway hit which transferred to Broadway where it won the American Theatre Wing's Hewes Award. He is the Resident Director/Dramaturge at Tapestry New Opera Works where he most recently staged the world premiere of Omar Daniel’s The Shadow. His first short film The Perfect Match, which premiered at Harbourfront’s World Stage Festival, was seen at film festivals across North American and was nominated for Best Experimental Film at the Miami Short Film Festival. He is one of the most renown and sought after operatic acting coaches on the continent, most often recognized for his participation in the Gemini Award-winning television series Bathroom Divas.
The creative team also includes: Julia Tribe, Set and Costume Design; Douglas J. Morum, Lighting Design, Robert McCollum, Choreography, John Rigzin Tute, Music; and Ashlyn Ireland, Stage Management.
