Nominations now open for “5 to watch” – Canada’s Sports Business Awards

Nominations for 5 to Watch: Canada's Sports Business Awards are now open.

TORONTO – Nominations for the 5 to Watch: Canada’s Sports Business Awards are now being accepted. The awards are presented annually to sports business professionals who have achieved remarkable career success prior to the age of 40.

Now in its fifth year, the awards are hosted by George Brown College in partnership with the Globe and Mail. The event is organized by alumni of George Brown’s Sport & Event Marketing Program with all proceeds benefitting student bursaries at the George Brown Centre for Business. To date, over $150,000 has been raised for student awards.

Any member of the public may submit a nomination for the awards. The competition is open to Canadian citizens who have five or more years of experience in the sports business industry and have not turned 40 before January 1, 2016. “Field of play” staff (e.g. coaches, players) and sports journalists (e.g. reporters, commentators, writers) are not eligible for these awards. Candidates do not have to be a graduate of George Brown College to be nominated.

The 2016 winners will be celebrated at the 5 to Watch awards show in June at George Brown’s Waterfront Campus. Past award winners have come from various sectors of the industry. The 2015 winners included Andrew Baker (Director, Games, Canadian Olympic Committee), Chris Shewfelt (Senior Director, Global Partnerships, MLSE), Michael Rossi (President, adidas Group Canada), Tyler Mazereeuw (Senior Director, Business Development, CFL) and Joanna Rotenberg (CMO and Head of Strategy, BMO Financial).

Nominations will remain open until 11:59pm PST on Monday, February 29, 2016 and can be submitted on the event website at www.5towatch.ca
