George Brown Moving to Office 2007

Office 2003 users need a converter for Office 2007 documents

Users of Office 2003 need to download a converter so they can properly read and use Office 2007 documents. Since 2007, the college has installed it in all classrooms and labs and all new computers – so many older computers may need it. A link for the converter software is on the college’s iTAC web page.

We are starting by updating computers in classrooms, labs and learning centres for fall 2009 - and offering staff training.

ITS will be installing Microsoft Office 2007 word processing, presentation, spreadsheet and database programs on computers used by students in all classrooms, labs and learning centre by September 1, 2009 - replacing Office 2003 versions.

To make the transition as easy as possible, the college will hold training sessions about Office 2007 for staff in the beginning of September.

The upgrading of computers used by students is the first step in converting all computers at the college - a process that will be done department by department from September 2009 to September 2010. See the timetable for more details.

George Brown is maintaining its current Microsoft computer operating system - Windows XP - and has no plans to move to the more recently released Vista operating system.
