George Brown College offers a balanced, career-focused education that has lasting value. Our programs are designed to:
- Help our students achieve their primary employment goals.
- Give them communication and analytic skills for long-term career mobility and advancement in the future.
- Give students a broad choice of courses that enrich their knowledge of wider society.
We do this by making sure that every full-time program at George Brown College is a careful blend of:
- courses in the career skills that employers tell us graduates will need their first day on the job
- essential employability skills such as communications, math, computers, problem-solving and interpersonal relations
- General Education and Liberal Studies courses that provide students with a breadth of knowledge in the humanities, social sciences and sciences
- electives that give students an opportunity to choose courses that are outside their major field of study, supplementing and enriching their education
This rich mix of courses – and a balanced education – is supported by employers who value staff that have a broad understanding of their field as well as the world around them. It’s also supported by the Ontario government, which wants college graduates to have the best education possible so that they can be productive, informed and involved citizens.
In addition to offering the general education electives that provide balance to programs across the College, the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences has a rich blend of program offerings including:
- General Arts and Science one-year certificate and two-year diploma
- Assaulted Women’s and Children’s Counsellor/Advocate two-year diploma and part-time Continuing Education diploma program
- Research Commercialization and Innovation graduate certificate
The School of Liberal Arts & Sciences also houses the School of Labour, which offers workshops and holds an annual Labour Fair to increase students’ understanding of employment issues.
