The awards are sponsored by individuals or companies who wish to acknowledge and support the excellent work accomplished by the students of George Brown College.


  • Marvin and Doreen Gerstein and Jerry Bitter Award: To a student demonstrating a high degree of effort, perceived potential and financial need.

    Value: 2 awards of $400.00 each
    Eligibility: - students in their second semester of a full time Jewellery Certificate or Diploma Program

  • Lacy & Company Award: To a student who has the highest GPA in their first semester

    Value: $200.00 credit
    Eligibility: - 2nd semester full time student enrolled in a Jewellery program

  • Viola So Award: To a student whose design work demonstrates potential for success in fashion jewellery.

    Value: $300.00
    Eligibility: - any full time Jewellery Certificate or Diploma student

  • Mimi Shulman Award: To a student whose wax modeling demonstrates innovation and competence in utilizing the unique and individual properties of assorted waxes.

    Value: $200.00
    Eligibility: - any full time Jewellery Certificate or Diploma student

  • METALURGE Award: To a student who through their academic and practical studies demonstrates outstanding potential.

    Value: $300.00 credit for Grobet tools and a display of work at METALURGE
    Eligibility: - open to all 4th full time semester students in a Jewellery program

  • Birk's Award: To a student whose work demonstrates a commitment to the pursuit of goldsmithing excellence.

    Value: $200.00
    Eligibility: - open to all 4th full time semester students in a Jewellery program

  • Imperial Smelters Award: To a student showing innovative and competent use of ideas and materials.

    Value: $250.00 credit
    Eligibility: - 4th semester Jewellery Arts Diploma or Jewellery Methods Diploma Program
    - 6th semester Jewellery Arts Diploma Program

  • Bob Wille Award: To a student showing demonstrated excellence in stone setting combined with general academic performance.

    Value: Synthetic and imitation stones valuing $ 125.00
    Eligibility: - 4th semester Jewellery Arts Diploma or Jewellery Methods Diploma Program
    - 6th semester Jewellery Arts Diploma Program

  • Gesswein Award: to a student showing initiative in technical explorations.

    Value: $100.00 credit, plus a 'goody bag' of tools and supplies with a value of $400.00
    Eligibility: - 4th semester Jewellery Arts Diploma or Jewellery Methods Diploma Program
    - 6th semester Jewellery Arts Diploma Program

  • Louis Frankian Diamond Jewellers Award: To a student who has used diamonds creatively and appropriately in jewellery or designs.

    Value: A loose diamond valued at $500
    Eligibility: - 6th semester Jewellery Arts Diploma Program

  • Gambhir's Import Award for Academic Excellence: To the student with the highest CGPA through five semesters.

    Value: $300.00 cash and $300 credit
    Eligibility: - 6th semester Jewellery Arts Diploma Program

  • Gambhir's Import Award for Excellence in Design: For the best use of coloured stones or pearls.

    Value: $300.00 cash and $300 credit
    Eligibility: - 6th semester Jewellery Arts Diploma Program

  • Made You Look Entrepreneur Award: To a student who has demonstrated entrepreneurial drive and good interpersonal skills, and whose work demonstrates creativity and craftsmanship.

    Value: 3 months free studio rent ($1200.00)
    Eligibility: - 6th semester Jewellery Arts Diploma Program
    - application must include; jewellery or photos of jewellery, a business plan for the 3 months at Made You Look and for the subsequent 3 months, an orientation at Made You Look (Jan/Feb) prior to the jurying process (mid March)

  • Shelley Purdy Award: To a student whose work demonstrates excellence in design.

    Value: $350.00
    Eligibility: - Chosen by Shelley Purdy from work on exhibit in the grad show.

  • Platinum Unlimited Award: To a student whose work demonstrates technical excellence.

    Value: $300.00
    Eligibility: - Chosen by Ulrich Dehez from work on exhibit in the grad show.

  • Christel Klocke Award: To a gemmology student who has demonstrated academic success.

    Value: $500.00
    Eligibility: - to the student with the highest CGPA in completing the Gemmology Certificate Program, and who has successfully completed the Canadian Gemmological exams and the British Gemmological exams
    - open to 2003-2004 students
