The School of Health Services Management at George Brown College brings together industry leaders to shape program and course content. Many of the faculty at the college are still active in their industries today, so they combine day-to-day working realities with academic theories and approaches. Faculty Bios

Mary Cole

Mary teaches various courses within the Office Administration – Health Services program including: Clinical Environment, Office Procedures, Bookkeeping and Keyboarding. She recently completed a Human Resources course at Ryerson Chang School for Continuing Education, and plans to obtain her degree in the part time program at Ryerson this January in the Public Administration and Governance program. She will also be enrolling in the Mental Health and Addictions program at Ryerson which is a 10 course, degree credit program. Mary is a proud graduate of the Health Sciences- Medical Office Administration program at George Brown College, 2013.

For eight years Mary worked in the financial sector in Investor Relations, coordinating and managing clients investments. Prior to that, she was active in the fashion industry as a Store Manager and Communication Co-ordinator for various retailers within Toronto. She was hired as part-time faculty in the fall of 2013 at George Brown College and was recently hired on full-time in the Office Administration – Health Services program.

Mary is also a member of the Office Administration – Health Services Program Advisory Committee and recently came on board as a volunteer for the Healthy Campus Faculty Mobilization Team with a special focus on student mental health and well-being.

Taras Gula

Taras has been a professor at George Brown College since 2002 after a 12 year career teaching mathematics in the Toronto District School Board. He teaches courses in mathematics, statistics, and research methods to students in the Health Science Division. Taras' research has been focused on improving mathematics and statistics education for non-mathematicians, but he has also supported research in Inter-professional Education and other health sciences education research formally and informally. As part of larger research projects Taras has led a team that evaluated the adaptation of JUMP math to the college setting (HRSDC sponsored) and created on-line learning tools (www.mathessentials.ca and www.statcat.ca). Taras specializes in mathematics, statistics and research methods. He is a member of the George Brown College Research Ethics Board and supports fellow faculty in their research by helping conduct data analysis.
