George Brown College Health Sciences students in nursing,
dental hygiene and fitness and lifestyle management began working together
with second year St. Michael's medical students in the College's newly
expanded Interprofessional
Learning Clinic, located at 175 Kendal Avenue on George Brown College's Casa Loma campus.
George Brown students offer services to the public ranging from teeth
cleaning and hearing tests to health promotion and fitness assessments.
St. Michael's students will be able to select the Interprofessional
Learning Clinic as a practical placement that will allow them to focus
on Community Health projects by assessing the community's health needs
or barriers to health, by evaluating an existing program or developing
a new intervention based on sound evidence.
"This collaboration with St. Michael's is a key part of our leading
interprofessional approach," said Lorie Shekter-Wolfson,
Dean of Community Services and Health Sciences at George
Brown College. "Students from
St. Mike's and George Brown's Health Sciences faculty
are able to experience how health-care practitioners'
roles are connected and how a collaborative
approach leads to improved patient care."
The clinic houses a 57-chair oral health service and is open Monday
to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services are offered by George
Brown students under the direct supervision of expert health sciences
faculty, all of whom are registered professionals.
