Industry & Community

Our Partners
The hearing impaired community have a support group, the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA), whose members participate by offering up personal experiences in a clinical lab setting. The board and members of the Association of Hearing Instrument Practitioners (AHIP) are very supportive, offering speakers, and donating equipment and clinical placements.

George Brown College offers the only HIS program in Ontario which is recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Health. Upon completion of the program, these graduates may apply for authorizer status with the Assistive Devices Branch.

Advisory Committees
The Hearing Instrument Specialist Advisory Committee meets quarterly to review the curriculum and policies of the Ministry of Health which may have an impact on our graduates. Members of the committee are faculty, graduates, a member of the manufacturing sector, a representative of the current HIS full-time program, a representative of the HIS continuing education program and members of the professional association. The chairs and co-ordinator of each program and take part in the committee meetings.

The Dental Technology Advisory Committee consists of students and graduates of George Brown College. They advise the faculty and ensure that the program maintains its currency.

The Dental Assistant Advisory Committee meets biannually to provide a link between the College and the communities they serve. Committee members participate directly in developing and reviewing programs to ensure coherence with the College's mission and strategic direction. They also assist in maintaining the educational currency of programs, by identifying the needs of the business and social sectors served by the College.

Part of the community
The Restorative Dental Hygiene Program participates in the community by performing procedures in addition to traditional preventive duties. The restorative dental hygienist, in compliance with the Standards of Practice approved by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario, places and finishes amalgam, composite and temporary restorations, and cements temporary crowns.

Through this program George Brown College (GBC) offers low cost dentistry in the George Brown College Interprofessional clinic to the community.

Associations
Many of our faculty members are members of the Ontario Dental Hygiene Association. For more information visit: www.ODHA.on.ca.
