Centre for Preparatory and Liberal Studies Awards

To be considered for any of the awards listed below, students must be enrolled full-time in a program from the Centre for Preparatory and Liberal Studies, and can apply by selecting Divisional Winter Awards in the Student Profile application through STU-VIEW during the award application window.

List of Available Awards for Preparatory and Liberal Studies Students:

Adele Lynn Jacobson Memorial Scholarship
Friends & Family of Adele Lynn Jacobson have donated funds for the establishment of the Adele Lynn Jacobson Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in Academic Upgrading program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must demonstrate effort and commitment to furthering education with a 2.7 GPA;
  • Student must display financial need and Ontario residency.

AU Grit and Determination Award
The School of Work and College Preparation staff has donated funds for the establishment of the AU Grit and Determination Award. The award is available to domestic students in the A738: Anglo (Hearing) and Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Academic Upgrading (ASL) program in their 1st year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must submit an essay about grit and determination in English or ASL describing how they are able to accomplish their academic achievements despite the obstacles in their life.

AWCCA Faculty Team Scholarship
AWCCA faculty donated funds for the establishment of the AWCCA Faculty Team Scholarship. The award is available to students in the R107 Assaulted Women’s & Children’s Counsellor Advocate program in their second year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need;
  • The student must demonstrate outstanding group process skills and contribute to a positive classroom learning environment.

AWCCA Scholarship
AWCCA faculty donated funds for the establishment of the AWCCA Scholarship. The award is available to students in the R107 Assaulted Women’s & Children’s Counsellor Advocate program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must demonstrate financial need.

BMO Transitions to Post-Secondary Education Academic Achievement Award
BMO Financial Group has donated funds for the establishment of the BMO Transitions to Post-Secondary Education Academic Achievement Award. The award is available to domestic students in the A107 Transitions to Post-Secondary Education program in their third semester of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA;
  • The student must demonstrate self-motivation, passion about learning and higher-than-average achievement within the program.

BMO Transitions to Post-Secondary Education Community Involvement Award
BMO Financial Group has donated funds for the establishment of the BMO Transitions to Post-Secondary Education Community Involvement Award. The award is available to domestic students in the A107 Transitions to Post-Secondary Education program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA;
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external);
  • Student must exhibit diligence and interest in future study.

BMO Transitions to Post-Secondary Education Moving Forward Award
BMO Financial Group has donated funds for the establishment of the BMO Transitions to Post-Secondary Education Moving Forward Award. The emergency award is available to students in the A107 or RTE program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display significant economic disadvantages or adversities.

Calzavara Memorial Award
Andrea Daley has donated funds for the establishment of the Calzavara Memorial Award. The award is available to domestic students in A107 Transitions to Post-Secondary Education in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external);
  • The student must be promoting acceptance of LGTTQ community and demonstrate leadership.

Centre for Preparatory and Liberal Studies Scholarship
The Centre for Preparatory and Liberal Studies Scholarships are available to domestic students in a CPLS program (on an annual rotational basis) in their final semester of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA;
  • Student must display financial need;
  • The student must demonstrate leadership as determined by faculty.

CTTP Scholarship Fund
The award is available to full-time students in R403 program in any year of study.

  • Minimum of 3.5 GPA;
  • Student must display commitment and spirit of dedication to professional learning; demonstrate an openness to learning from others and working with others; exhibit professional skills pertaining to their field of study.

Dean's Medal
CPLS awards a Dean’s Medal to a graduating student in each program of the Centre. The award goes to a student who has high academic standing and gives promise in the opinion of the faculty.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA.
     

De La Salle Bursary
Vince Thompson has donated funds for the establishment of the De La Salle Bursary. The award is available to domestic students in the Augment Education program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need;
  • Student must submit an essay describing their community activities as well as the obstacles they have overcome in their pursuit of post-secondary education.

Ecole Polytechnique Memorial Award
The President's Office has donated funds for the establishment of the Ecole Polytechnique Memorial Award. The award is available to students in the R107 Assaulted Women’s & Children’s Counsellor Advocate program in their second year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need;
  • The student must demonstrate commitment to gender-based antiviolence work.

GAS Achievement Academic Award
The General Arts and Science Achievement Academic Award. The award is available to students in the R101 General Arts and Science (Diploma) and R104 General Arts and Science (Certificate) program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum of 3.5 GPA.
  • Student must demonstrate leadership by example.

Georgia Quartaro Scholarship
In honour of Georgia’s lifelong commitment to helping the disadvantaged, the “Georgia Quartaro Scholarship” was established. The award is available to students in any program of CPLS in any year of study (with at least one semester completed).

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA;
  • Student must display financial need and exhibit a commitment and spirit of dedication to chosen field of study.

Harris Family Maple Fund
The award is available to full-time students in A105 Assistant Cook Extended Training and A106 Construction Craft Worker Extended Training programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum of 2.5 GPA;
  • Student must display financial need;
  • The student must demonstrate they have overcome obstacles to undertake their studies at GBC.

Jean Jordan Assaulted Women and Children’s Counsellor Advocate Scholarship
Beth Jordan has donated funds for the establishment of the Jean Jordan Assaulted Women and Children’s Counsellor Advocate Scholarship. The award is available to students in the R107 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need;
  • The student must demonstrate commitment to the program’s focus.

Joan Murphy Scholarship
The award is available to domestic students graduating from RTE, For You, ACET or other programs serving students who have mental illness.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need.

Lilia Santos-Villa Memorial Scholarship
Cordi Villa has donated funds for the establishment of the Lilia Santos-Villa Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in the R107 Assaulted Women’s & Children’s Counsellor Advocate program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need;
  • The student must demonstrate efforts to overcome obstacles, strive to achieve the "best for women", and focus on international work.
     

Mental Health Conference Scholarship
The Mental Health Conference Scholarship is awarded to domestic students in A107 Transitions to Post-Secondary program, A105 Assistant Cook Extended Training and A106 Construction Craft Worker Extended Training programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA;
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external);
  • Student must display financial need;
  • The student must be entering a further post-secondary or apprenticeship program and demonstrate interest in their area of study.

Naranjan Singh Award
The Naranjan Singh Award is available to domestic students in the R101 and R104 program in their first year of study, with the highest GPA.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum of 3.5 GPA.

President's TPE Bursary
The President's Office has donated funds for the establishment of the President's TPE Bursary. The award is available to full time students in the A107 Transitions to Post-Secondary Education program in their second or third semester of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must demonstrate academic and personal excellence.

Sandra Fishleigh Award
The Sandra Fishleigh “Founding Mother” Award is presented in honour of the first Program Coordinator of the Assaulted Women’s & Children’s Counsellor Advocate program. The award is available to students in the R107 Transitions to Post-Secondary program in their second year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must demonstrate excellent attitude, advocacy, activism in field placement, and community involvement.

Uncle Bob Scholarship
College Staff have donated funds for the establishment of the Uncle Bob Scholarship in memory of Professor Bob Koledin. The award is available to domestic students in all access programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need.

Wendy Bray and Cathy Callaghan Scholarship
Wendy Bray & Cathy Callaghan donated funds for the establishment of the Wendy Bray and Cathy Callaghan Scholarship. The award is available to students in the R107 Assaulted Women’s & Children’s Counsellor Advocate program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need.
