OSAP - Ontario Student Assistance Program - Continued
Bursary
for Students with Disabilities
These
non-repayable funds help students with educational expenses above the
ordinary due to a permanent disability. You must qualify for OSAP and
contact one of our Special Needs Consultants who will assess your need
and the related cost. Applications are available through Financial
Assistance or Special Needs.
Ontario
Work Study Program
The
Ontario Work Study Program provides OSAP students with part-time jobs
throughout the college, to a maximum of 15 hours per week at minimum
wage. Students complete an application form, locate their own job though
any of the departments, i.e. Athletics, your own Faculty, the Library,
etc. If you are approved by the Financial Assistance Office you can
then begin work.
Remember that income earned during the school year from any source, Work Study
Program or not. legally must be reported to the Financial Assistance Office
and may impact your OSAP funding, either during the current school year or
in the future. Applications and information are available through the Financial
Assistance Office.
Ontario
Special Bursary Program
This
plan provides non-repayable bursary funding for students with low income
who are taking between 20% and up to 59% of a full-time course load,
and who are unable to study on a full-time basis. Assistance is also
available for students enrolled in approved full-time and part-time
upgrading and ESL courses. This bursary helps with the cost of tuition,
compulsory fees, books, equipment, child care and local transportation.
Maximum bursary that can be received in one year (Sept-Aug) is $2500
. Applications and information are available from the Financial Assistance
Office.
Canada
Part-Time Student Loan and/or Special Opportunity Grants
Both
of the above are assessed with one application. They provide students
with funding to study from 20 per cent to 59 per cent of a course load
for OSAP qualified courses. You must have a good reason for studying
part-time and provide proof of your income. Part-time loans require
that a student pay the interest during the study period on the loan.
Ontario
Student Opportunity Grant
This
program replaces the Loan Forgiveness Program. For students who borrow
over $7,000.00 in a two semester year, after all income information
on your OSAP application is verified with Revenue Canada, the ministry
will pay down your loan to the bank to the appropriate level. You do
not have to apply for this benefit. The grant is subject to maximum
amounts.
If
you are experiencing difficulties with your finances for any reason
or are having difficulties in budgeting, please consult the Financial
Assistance Office, Student Life Office or the Counselling Offices. The George Brown College Student Assistance Fund and/or the Emergency
Fund are available to help. These funds are a portion of tuition
payments of all students.
