Makeover
Madness! Fashion Management students promote store with beauty treatments
Fashion Management (F102) students take their job running an on-campus fashion
store seriously.
The question they tackled recently: How do you get more students and staff to visit the Casa Loma Campus student run shop and
increase sales?
Their
answer: A free makeover to attract new customers!
On Wednesday, October 17, 2007 the students made an open area outside in the shop into a salon - offering free manicures, hairstyling
and make up.
The plan worked - drawing dozens of students and staff for the treatments and then into the shop to browse for new looks in clothes,
jewellery and accessories.
On August 25, 2007 the designs
of first and second year students from the GBC Fashion Techniques and Design program were modeled
during an outdoor afternoon show at Dundas Square in downtown Toronto. This was the first of what is sure to become an annual Fashion
and Design Festival hosted by Sensation Mode.
Designs
were submitted in three categories including: casual daywear, dressy/business wear, and eveningwear.
Congratulations to all of the students involved for contributing to a fabulous show. Special thanks to Trisha Cockburn, a graduating student
of the Fashion Techniques and Design program for coordinating participation by George Brown Fashion in the Festival.

George
Brown Sends Four to First-Ever White Cashmere Student Design Competition.
Finalists to showcase original designs made from Cashmere Bathroom
Tissue at fashion show finale this fall.
For Immediate Release, May 24, 2006
George Brown students, Steph Paczay, Caroline
Rosenberg, Stephanie Kidd and Nancy
Hoang are preparing to compete in the White Cashmere
Student Design Competition Finale on September 21, in
Toronto.
Designed to nurture and inspire Canada's young fashion talent, the
competition challenged more than 200 fashion students at seven Toronto
and Montreal schools to create original fashions in an entirely new
medium - luxurious sheets of pure Cashmere, Canada's best-selling bathroom
tissue.
Students presented sketches and prototypes of their Cashmere BT Couture
creations to Toronto curator David Dixon and George Brown faculty including
Luda Kruts, Julie Cichon, Cynthia Givens-Sanford and Milan Shahani,
on Tuesday, April 25.
"I was completely blown away by the talent and vision of our George
Brown participants - and it was extremely difficult to choose only two
designs," says David Dixon, Style Magazine's reigning
Canadian Women's Designer of the Year. "Ultimately, the designs
that were the most creative, technically proficient and well executed
were selected. "
Eight Toronto finalists will vie for a $2,500 bursary at a glamorous Cashmere
Fashion Show Finale in Toronto. An elite panel of Canadian fashion
industry leaders including Susan Langdon, Executive
Director of the Toronto Fashion Incubator, will select the winner.
About Cashmere - www.cashmere.ca
Cashmere delivers a luxurious approach to softness in bathroom tissue to the
Canadian market. An evolution of Cottonelle, Canada's best-selling bathroom
tissue, Cashmere reflects Scott Paper Limited's continuing commitment to
providing the finest quality tissue products to Canadian consumers. Cashmere
will replace the name Cottonelle on Canadian store shelves this year - but
will continue to be 100% Canadian-made.
