JAMAICA Project
Outreach
teaches value of your roots, Toronto Star, Dec. 26, 2003
Last year, thirteen graduates of the Early Childhood Education Program at George Brown College along with two professors spent two weeks volunteering in
Basic and All Ages Schools in the parish of Westmoreland in Jamaica. A one-day curriculum conference was also organized with more than 125 teachers representing
100 different schools in attendance. This year, 8 graduates from the ECE program and 2 members of the team from last year along with their teachers will
travel again to Westmoreland to continue our work. Read more about Jamaica project.
May
23, 2007 - The School of Early Childhood at George Brown College was awarded last week for its Early Childhood Development:
From Standards to Practice Project in Jamaica with an Award Recognizing Excellence in Communicating International
Cooperation Issues during the 15h Annual Canadian Awards for International Cooperation, which recognized the excellent work of Canadian
businesses and organizations in developing countries. The awards were presented by Mr. Robert Greenhill, President, Canadian International Development
Agency (CIDA) and the Hon. Perrin Beatty, President and CEO, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters.
Through George Brown College's partnership with Jamaica's Early Childhood Commission, the project has had significant national impact as
it reaches 94% of all pre-school age children through its curriculum approach. The project aims to enhance the child-centred approach to
curriculum delivery in the areas of literacy and numeracy/science and strengthen ECE certification at the diploma level.
