5 Year Project - Association of Canadian Community Colleges
On
April 1, 2003, George Brown's School of Early Childhood was awarded a 5 year A.C.C.C. project funded by the Canadian International
Development Agency (C.I.D.A.). This Canadian College Partnership Program Phase 11 project will focus on improving the learning, behaviour, coping,
developmental and care skills for the 0-6 year old group. We will focus on enhancing the child-centred approach to curriculum delivery in the
areas of literacy, numeracy, science and support the consolidation of ECE certification at the diploma level. Student participation in Jamaica
is an important part of this project.
In January, 2008 the Best Practices document was launched in Kingston Jamaica. The document is the culmination
of four years of work with partner early childhood institutions, the Early Childhood Commission, The Ministry of Education and Youth, UNICEF Jamaica,
Shortwood Teachers' College and The Dudley Grant Memorial Trust. This document will be distributed to more than 3,000 early childhood instituions
island wide as a guide to ensure Best Practices.

On-going meetings will continue to strengthen the partnership between
George Brown College and our Jamaican counterparts, the Ministry of
Education, Youth and Culture, U.N.I.C.E.F., Shortwood Teachers College
and Women for P.A.C.E. Canada.

The George Brown College team was extremely honoured to be presented to
Sir Patrick Allen, Governor General of Jamaica on Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 in recognition of their contribution to the Early Childhood community in Jamaica.

George Brown ECE students attended a reception in their honour on January 14, 2010 at Shortwood Teachers’ College in Kingston, Jamaica. In attendance were the Canadian High Commissioner Mr. Stephen Hallihan and his wife.
