URGENT NOTICE REGARDING OESC
On December 8, 2009, the RCMP published an interim policy, outlining national requirements governing police record checks. The policy took effect immediately. There was no consultation or forewarning for OESC and no transition plan for organizations such as OESC. As a result, we have been unable to conduct police record checks for students since that time. We are working very hard with senior officials from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the RCMP to resolve the situation as soon as possible. We will provide a further update in early January, with recommendations for students who do not have an OESC ID Card as a result of this interruption in service. There will be a revised set of forms and procedures required for conducting police record checks through OESC in the future. These will be made available as soon as possible. Our web site will contain daily updates about this situation beginning on January 5, 2010. Please consult it regularly for updates. We do not have the staff to be able to respond at this time to individual phone calls or emails. We stress that this situation was not in our control, and we thank you for your patience as we work to resolve it.
