Paul Rowan: The Whole Brain Designer

The first annual Design Management Speaker Series was held in conjunction with Alumni Relations on February 13, 2008 at the Berkeley Church.

Paul Rowan is the co-founder and Vice-President of Umbra. He is Chair of the School of Design Strategic Planning Committee and supports the Director’s Design Competition and the Umbra Award of Excellence.

Paul’s lecture was on the whole brain designer and featured examples from Umbra.


David Crombie
David Crombie visited the College on January 21, 2004 to launch the Director's Design Competition. David Crombie is the President and CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute and is a former mayor of Toronto and Member of Parliament.

Mervyn Kurlansky
Co-author of the recently published Masters of the 20th Century: ICOGRADA's Hall of Fame, Mervyn is one of the founders of Pentagram London where he worked until 1993. The president elect of Icograda (The International Council of Graphic Design Associations), he gave a lecture/presentation of his extensive portfolio of work at the Design Exchange in conjunction with the third year awards ceremony.

Diti Katona
Diti is one of the founders of the graphic design firm Concrete located in Toronto. She presented a portfolio of her company's recent work at the RealtimeStudio in the Distillery District as part of the Winter Welcome Lecture.

Triplan Design
Triplan Design, based in Montreal, is the winner of the City of Milan Award 2003 for young foreign designers. They offered a presentation of their work as part of the exhibit opening of Aurora Canadese: Canadian Dawn.
