1. Introduction

Welcome to MONDAYS, the School of Design's email newsletter. This email publication exists to keep you in touch with what's going on in your School and the design community.

2. School of Design

  • UNDER INVESTIGATION Second Year Show - Join us on Thursday, December 15 between 5 pm - 7 pm for the School of Design's Second Year Show. Refreshments will be served in Room 267D. The second year student poster show and sale exhibition will run from Dec 15 to Jan 6.
  • 2005 ANNUAL - Designers, start your SUBMISSIONS for the 2005 SchoolofDesign Annual. This annual showcase of student work is sent to highschools and important industry contacts all over the world. Submit work on CD or DVD to dropbox in Room 266D. The class work must have been completed between Sept 04 and Sept 05. Include your name, date of project, class, professor, and piece name in a digital text file as well as on the disk.
  • Registration for Winter Semester - Graphic Design Students – Registration for January 2006
    • If you wish to register in a course that is full, please check STU-VIEW periodically to see if there are any openings
    • During the week of January 2nd, please log into STU-VIEW to see if there have been any changes to your schedule. (It is highly unlikely that any will arise but sometimes they do occur due to changes in instructor availability.)
    • Semester 4, GRAF1101 Introduction to Design Management: this is NOT a required course and please note that it is most suitable for students in third year
    • Semester 6, GRAF 3006 Design Thesis: this course has a lecture from 12-1pm on Mondays followed by a studio from 1-6pm. STU-VIEW is not currently displaying the studio but that should be remedied soon. Also, please ensure that you register in the appropriate section for your major:
      Corporate: Shelley Warsh or Gilles Morin
      Environmental: Gilles Morin
      Advertising: Mike Garrett
      Image: Vince Mancuso
      New Media: Dan Ouellette
  • Attention all 2nd year Graphic Design Students
    Year End Exhibition Course: request for applications for Semester 4. Year End Exhibition is a course focused on the planning and development of the end of year show and awards for the graduating students. It includes aspects of exhibition design, marketing and communications collateral, multimedia development and exhibit installation. To apply for admission to this course, students should email the instructor, Ian Gregory (igregory@gbrownc.on.ca) by Friday, December 9, with the following information: cumulative GPA (minimum GPA should be 3.0) & 5 jpegs of work in your major. Admission to this course is limited and subject to departmental review. Any third year students interested in taking this course should speak with Ian Gregory. Applicants will be notified by Monday December 12.


3. Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario

The Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario (RGD Ontario) is a professional association for graphic designers. With close ties to industry and national and international design associations, RGD Ontario is a source of information and support for its members and the graphic design community. All students in the graphic design and digital media programs of George Brown College are members of the association – simply activate your free membership online at www.rgdontario.com/students.

4. Job Opportunities

  • Graphic Artist - Normerica Inc. is looking for an experienced graphic artist to develop original, creative, innovative artwork concepts for consumer product packaging. Required skills include knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator, 2-4 years experience, knowledge of flexographic printing process. Knowledge of French an asset. Please fax resume to (416) 626-9266.

5. Call for Entries

  • SAS Canada Headquarters Art Competition - Students are invited to submit proposals for an original and inspirational work of art for public display to help celebrate SAS' new building and presence at 280 King Street East. Entries must be submitted between Nov 21/05 and Jan 5/06. First prize $8,000 cash with winning art piece to be displayed in entry lobby of SAS Canada building.   • Metro Make-Over Challenge - 1st Prize $2,000 & 2nd Prize $1000. Find an interesting piece at a flea market or second hand store and give it the makeover of a lifetime! 6. Events

  • Mass Consumption - Join FUEL Club on Thursday December 15 2005 at 5pm in the upstairs of BETTY's. A great way to end the semester and for those who want to jam with some live music bring your iPod/instrument. BETTY's is located on King Street (one block east of Sherbourne). Jerri Johnson is running a coffee house on campus at the same time (5pm-7pm).
