Personal Financial Planning
As the financial services industry continues to expand, there is a growing demand for advisors who have an in-depth knowledge of the principles
of personal financial planning. In addition, there is a trend towards improving the standards governing the financial planning profession
in Canada.
Students who choose the Personal Financial Planning major of the Bachelor of Applied Business degree will have the opportunity to qualify
for one of the most highly regarded professional designations in the financial services industry, the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.
The Certified Financial Planner designation is the only internationally recognized financial planning designation, and is granted by the
Financial Planners Standards Council, which develops and regulates financial planning standards in Canada. The Personal Financial Planning
major of the Bachelor of Applied Business degree has been developed based on the skills and knowledge needed to meet the requirements of
the CFP designation. Graduates will be qualified to write the CFP examination (as offered by the Financial Planners Standards Council) immediately
upon graduation.
In addition, your co-op work experience counts toward the two years’ work experience required for CFP certification. That means if
you take all three co-op sessions available to you, you’ll only need an additional year of work experience to qualify for CFP designation.
The Personal Financial Planning major also allows students to complete the Canadian Securities Course and examination as part of their studies.
The Canadian Securities Course is a prerequisite for many careers in the financial services industry.
