MAJORS (more information)
Accounting
There’s great demand for highly skilled accounting professionals today. A competitive business environment, increasing globalization
and the growing complexity of many businesses have created an urgent need for employees with enhanced qualifications and high levels of dedication
and competence. Industry trends indicate that people working in accounting and finance professions can expect to receive the highest increases
in salary in the next 5 to 10 years.
A professional accounting designation means greater earnings and promotion potential. When you major in Accounting in the Bachelor of Applied
Business degree, you’re on the fast track to achieving the professional Certified General Accountant designation – you can potentially
achieve certification within 18 months of graduation. Plus, you may also earn credits toward other designations, such as Chartered Accountant
and Certified Management Accountant. Our program is recognized by both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and the Certified
General Accountants of Canada as meeting the degree requirements.
With a George Brown College business degree, you’ll come out ahead of graduates with traditional university degrees because you’ll
have practical education and could have up to a year of on-the-job experience from co-op work terms, advancing you toward fulfilment of the
work experience required for designation. No other educational institution can get you there faster!

Here's what some of the industry leaders
have to say about
the degree:
"We view George Brown College's [degree] as very positive.
In particular, the emphasis on accounting and financial analysis
is key to meeting our needs. We also view the co-op aspect . .
. to be very valuable. It has been our experience that employment
candidates generally prove to be stronger when they have had the
opportunity to concurrently apply the theory that they are learning
in a workplace situation. We would expect to be able to hire top
notch candidates graduating from the program."
Richard C. Pettit, Partner,
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP
"The consolidation of companies in this industry means that
future employers such as ours will be increasingly looking towards
specialized and applied financial programs to complete their
skilled
workforce requirements. Such applied programs will become more
relevant to the industry, versus the current options, such as
BComm, HBA
or MBA, which tend to be more geared towards general management
education."
