
Faculty Biographies
Tracey Adams
BA (Waterloo), MAcc (Waterloo), CA, CMA
Tracey has over 15 years
of experience in the field of education. She has delivered
post-secondary courses in both professional and
non-professional arenas to all levels of students. Her classroom
experience is enhanced by her extensive business experience with
small and medium sized businesses providing both accounting and
taxation advice. Tracey teaches courses in Accounting. Richard Almonte
BA (Toronto), BEd (Western Ontario), MA (Concordia), PhD (McMaster)
Richard
has over seven years of administrative, operational, marketing,
and editorial experience in the theatre and publishing industries.
His teaching experience prior to GBC included elementary, adult
ESL and university teaching assistantships. He has recently co-authored
two business communication text books for Nelson: Essentials of
Business Communication (2006) and The Practice of Business Communication
(2007). In addition, he has published articles, reviews and chapters
on literary topics in magazines, journals and books. Richard has
also edited two books on 19th Century Canadian writing, including
Mary Shadd’s A Plea for Emigration (Mercury, 1998). He teaches
courses in Composition and Rhetoric, Business Communication, Business
Journalism, Canadian cultural industries and Canadian literature.
William Basztyk
Ph.D. (Calif. Western), M.B.A. (Northland),
FCIS, FCIP, FCI, TEP
Bill has over 20 years teaching experience with
George Brown College and over 30 years total business experience.
He has worked in the
insurance industry as well as being a consultant for non-profit
organizations and major corporations. Bill is a licensed real
estate and mortgage broker in addition to being a registered trust
and
estate practitioner. He is the author of three books including
a college retailing textbook and currently serves on the boards
of several corporations. His major areas of interest are small
business, financial planning, real estate and international trade.
He has taught courses in all of these and currently teaches estate
and trust administration and mortgage courses in the BAB program
and small business courses in the post diploma program.
Ramesh Bhardwaj Ph.D. Economics (Delhi), PFPC (CSI), Post-Diploma
ECommerce(Centennial)
Ramesh Bhardwaj has more than twenty-five
years of teaching experience
in Economics, International Business, and Statistics. Presently
teaching in George Brown College and Ryerson University. He has
several research publications in the areas of applied economics
and international trade/business. He has participated in various
international conferences. In addition to teaching, he has worked
as a consultant and advisor in academic and professional organizations.
His current research interests include, industrial economics,
financial modeling, macroeconomics and international trade
Adrian Bond
BA (Toronto), MA (Toronto), PhD (Toronto)
Adrian
has over 15 years of experience in academia and the private sector.
Consulting in corporate communications, he works with clients
in financial services and telecommunications. He has taught business
writing and literature at the University of Toronto and Seneca
College. At U of T, he helped launch Canada's first graduate
program in knowledge media design, an inter-departmental collaboration
that he coordinated for three years. In addition to academic
publication in both the humanities and the sciences, he has published
non-fiction,
fiction, poetry and editorial cartoons. He teaches courses in Communication.
Lynn Buckerfield
BA (Guelph), MEd (British Columbia), EdD (Toronto)
Lynn has more than
15 years of experience as a practitioner and leader of human
resource management in small, medium and large
organizations. She has managed all human resource functions including
recruitment and staffing, labour relations, compensation and
benefits, succession planning and talent management, organizational
development
and training, and employee health and safety. Lynn's professional
expertise includes planning and executing organizational change
and managing transition. Her background includes teaching and
curriculum development experience in corporate, post-secondary
and community
settings.
Julie Bulmash
BA (Concordia), MBA (Heriot-Watt).
Julie has over 18 years experience
in Human Resources, working for technologically driven multinational
and mid sized corporations.
As a recognized contributor to organizational effectiveness Julie
has developed compensation and benefit programs, designed performance
management systems, developed international human resource policies
and programs and led change management projects. She brings several
years experience teaching at the university and college level.
She is a published author and has written on Organizational Behavior
in Canada, HR and Technology and is currently writing a textbook
on Human Resource Planning. Julie is the coordinator for the
HR program at George Brown College and teaches courses in compensation,
organizational effectiveness and human resource management.
Jim Carswell
BSc (RMC), MSc (Queen's), PhD (Queen's)
Jim
completed his PhD in Mathematics and has over 30 years experience
in education and business. Most of his industry experience has
been in IT-related fields including: management of an IT department;
responsibility for all hardware, software and services for a
call centre; consulting; programming. His teaching areas span business
and technical mathematics, statistics, computer languages and
software
development, computer applications and management information systems.
Bruno Fullone
BMath (Waterloo), CEd (SUNY, George Brown College), MA - Mathematics
and Statistics (York).
Bruno has over 19 years of experience
teaching Mathematics and Statistics at the college level. He
has also conducted corporate training sessions in statistics
and acted as chair of the Math, English and Liberal Arts department
at the college. Bruno has published educational materials that
have been used at postsecondary institutions across Canada.
Currently, he teaches Finance and Statistics courses, is the Coordinator
of Mathematics in the School of Business/CFSE and is on the
executive
of the Ontario Colleges Mathematics Association.
Mary Gibbons
MA (University of Toronto), LLB (University of Toronto)
Mary
has taught at George Brown since 1998. Previously she worked
at the
Attorney General's Office and the Ontario Legislature.
Mary teaches both Commercial and Family Law courses in the degree
program. She has also reviewed for two legal text publishers.
Frank Ingold
BA (Toronto), MBA (Toronto)
Frank has
over 20 years experience in the financial services industry.
This includes 16 years with a major Canadian financial institution
where
he held positions in product and marketing management, focusing
on mutual funds, retirement products and online brokerage services.
Frank teaches courses in banking, financial systems and marketing
in the diploma and degree programs in financial services at George
Brown College.
Mariana Ionescu
PhD (University of Bucharest)
Mariana Ionescu obtained her PhD
from the University of Bucharest -Romania. A physicist and statistician,
she is author or co-author
of several research articles and monographs. With over 18 years
of teaching experience, she has taught a wide range of courses
in Business Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at university
and college level in Canada and Romania. She has experience with
a
variety of actuarial models and she is interested in stochastic
modeling. Mariana teaches Business Mathematics and Statistics
courses in the diploma, post-diploma and degree programs
Stoney
Kudel
BA (York), MBA (Athabasca) Adult Education Certificate (St. Francis
Xavier)
Stoney has more than 20 years of financial services industry
experience and has a unique and valuable set of skills and knowledge
gained
through practical business experience, consulting, and managing
and leading people. Stoney is known for his in-depth knowledge
of strategic and business analysis and planning, leadership development,
leveraging organizational and personal change, adult learning
principles and methods, curriculum design, development and implementation,
sales and sales management effectiveness, learning delivery methodologies,
competency and psychometric testing, and classroom facilitation.
Marie Madill-Payne
BA (York), CGA, MBA (Heriot-Watt)
Marie has over 20 years experience
in education and business. This experience includes management
roles in Financial Reporting
and
Internal Audit and Treasury functions. Marie also has a background
as a financial and art consultant. For the past eight years
Marie has been teaching Accounting and Finance courses at colleges
in Alberta and Ontario.
Winston Marcellin
BA (Toronto), MBA (Toronto), CMA
Winston has over 25 years of professional
accounting experience working for large corporations including
CIBC. He has taught
at George Brown College for over 12 years and has also taught
Continuing
Education courses at Ryerson and Sheridan. He is a member of
the Society of Management Accountants of Ontario and teaches
courses
in Accounting.
Morris Marshall
BA (York), MA (York)
Morris has over five years of experience in
the field of economics. He has been teaching courses in Economics,
Math and Accounting
at the college for several years as both a full and part-time
instructor. Outside the classroom, Morris has reviewed chapters
for two economics
textbooks, co-written an online course in Macroeconomics, and
helped compose questions for an Online Student Centre (OLC)
for McGraw-Hill
Ryerson Publishers. He is currently co-writing a collection
of interactive learning activities for the Macroeconomics degree
course.
Louis Pike
BA (University of Waterloo), MEd (University of
Toronto), MA (University of Calgary), PhD (University of Toronto)
Louis
Pike has over 25 years of experience in the fields of business
management, organization development and human resources development
in such roles as Director of Organization Development and Director
of Staff Development. Currently, he runs a consulting practice
in Organization Development. Louis teaching experience includes
organizational behaviour at Ryerson University and training courses
in the corporate environment. Louis currently teaches the Business
and Professional Skills.
Rand Rowlands
BComm (Toronto), MBA (York), CA, CMA
Rand has over 20 years of experience
in Accounting, Auditing, and Consulting. He has led successful
initial public offerings, implemented
new accounting systems, and built models to streamline processes
and reduce costs. Rand teaches Accounting courses at the degree
and advanced diploma levels. Elizabeth Speers
BSc (York), MSc (Alberta), BEd (Toronto), MEd (Toronto), EdD (Toronto)
Elizabeth
has over 20 years of experience in education and business.
This experience includes teaching in university, college and
high
school programs as well as senior management roles in industry
in process reengineering, supply chain and strategic change management,
and human resources. Elizabeth is currently the Director, Centre
for Business.
Robert
Symmons
BBM (Ryerson), MBA (Western), CFP
Robert has over 15 years of experience
in financial services and business education including the development
and instruction
of
financial planning programs for investment professionals. Robert
teaches Investment, Retirement Planning, and Advanced Financial
Planning courses in the diploma, post-diploma and degree programs.
Ray Vaughan
B Com (McGill), MBA (Schulich-York), CMA, FCSI
Ray has over 20 years
of experience in the corporate sector, including roles ranging
from: CFO, Commercial Bank Management, and Stock
Brokerage.
Ray's teaching experience includes corporate training on
a consulting basis, the condensed executive CMA program, York
University, and Centennial, Seneca and Humber Colleges. At George
Brown, Ray
teaches Introduction to Canadian Business, Canadian Financial
Systems and Intermediate Accounting.
Christine Watson
BSc (Western), MBA (York), CFP
Chris has over 20 years of experience
in adult education, sales management and marketing. This includes
14 years of progressive
responsibility in financial services and six years of marketing
leadership with major multinational corporations. Chris teaches
courses in Financial Planning and Financial Services. |
