Ballet Jörgen Canada is one of the country's most innovative
and prolific dance companies, recognized internationally for its entrepreneurial
innovation, commitment to choreographic originality and artistic excellence.
Since 1992, George Brown College and Ballet
Jörgen Canada have
enjoyed an unprecedented partnership in the creation
of George Brown Dance, a dance school offering professional training
for students of
ballet and modern dance.
As part of the George Brown Dance experience Ballet
Jörgen Canada will hire guest artists and choreographers to work with the students.
These workshops are presented to add to the overall training and experience
of George Brown Dance Students.

- Ballet Jörgen Canada welcomed new dancers Rebekah Davey and
Cristina Tucciarone to the Company in September. In
January, dancer Matthew Johnson joined the Company.
- In October 2004, Ballet Jörgen Canada premiered
its new ballet for children, The Emperor’s New Clothes,
at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. The ballet was
choreographed by Benjamin Hatcher, and its original
score was composed by Ivan Barbotin. In December 2004

received the Paula Award from Prologue to the Performing
Arts
- In
November and December 2004, Ballet Jörgen Canada had one of
its most successful Nutcracker tours to date, travelling
across Ontario and to Prince Edward Island and New
Brunswick. Over 150 youth dancers from across the country
were a part of the production.
- On April 7, 2005,
Ballet Jörgen Canada officially premieres Bengt
Jörgen’s newest ballet Cinderella in Hamilton
ON. Cinderella will also be performed in Kitchener
on April 14, and in Toronto on April 21 at the Toronto
Centre for theArts.
George Brown Dance Student Ensemble
Students are accepted into the ensemble by audition in September of
each year. The Student Ensemble provides opportunity for students seeking
extra performance experience. The George Brown Dance Student Ensemble
performs at high schools, community festivals and the George Brown Dance
annual showcases. Works from Ballet
Jörgen Canada as well as commissions
from up and coming Toronto area choreographers will make up the years
repertoire. Members of the Ensemble are required to attend extra evening
and weekend rehearsals during the school year.
