By Lauren Fong.
It was during my time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, West Africa, that I
decided to pursue a career in hospitality. I was trained as a small business consultant specializing in ecotourism, an emerging industry
in Senegal, and sent to a small village of 400 people on the edge of a mangrove swamp, called Dassilame Serere.

For the eighth year in a row the next generation of culinary leaders wowed judges at Chefs in the City at George Brown Chef School. The high school cooking and baking competition was held in February in the new kitchen labs at the Chef School’s recently renovated building at 300 Adelaide Street East.
Every student won something and a total of 27 students won college scholarships. This year’s winners will be cooking dinner for guests at the college’s new restaurant, The Chef’s House on May 11th. Some tickets are still available if you are interested in supporting these dedicated students while enjoying an incredible meal please email Suzanne Caskie.
Special thanks to the events sponsors who made the event possible: Unilever Foodsolutions and Knorr, Egg Farmers of Ontario and Canada Bread Foodservice Company Limited.
