Dean’s Medals
The Dean’s Award and the Dean’s Medals will be recognized today and given out during the Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday June 23rd, 2009.

The Dean’s Award is awarded to the graduating post-secondary student with the highest GPA, including field work, work placement, and clinical, in a program selected in rotation.

On June 9, 2008, the Centre for Preparatory & Liberal Studies organized a Student Achievement & Awards Brunch at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts. Below is a summary of the awards, along with links to photos of the staff, faculty and award recipients.


Dean’s Award
The Dean’s Award is awarded to the graduating post-secondary student with the highest GPA, including field work, work placement, and clinical, in a program selected in rotation.

Naranjan Singh Awards
The Naranjan Singh Awards for General Arts & Sciences is given on the basis of outstanding results in semester one and registration in semester two for both the one year certificate and two year diploma in General Arts & Sciences.

Calzavara Commemorative Awards
These awards have been developed from the generous support of Andrea Daley to mark the completion of her PhD in School of Social Work at York University. Part of Andrea’s PhD research involved participants from the Redirection Through Education program. As well this award marks the 100th anniversary of Andrea’s great grandmother's arrival to Canada (from Italy) and the mental health issues which have been an ongoing influence in the generations of the Calzavara family. With Andrea’s support these awards have become the first awards presented in the College with a selection criteria to target gender and sexual diversity.

Uncle Bob Memorial Award—Robert Theodore
Koledin, was a long-serving and distinguished member of George Brown College's faculty who was affectionately known to many students as Uncle Bob. This endowed memorial fund was established by his family, colleagues and friends to celebrate Bob’s career and life. The Uncle Bob Fund distributes annual awards to support increased student access to Pre-Health and other preparatory programs.

Adele Lynn Jacobson Memorial Award
The Adele Lynn Jacobson Memorial Award is a tribute created by the family, colleagues and friends of Adele Lynn Jacobson. Adele was a respected professor and loved instructor in the Access Centre.

Kay Oxford Memorial Award
To celebrate and recognize Kay Oxford’s significant achievements and commitment to supporting students, friends, colleagues and family members created this memorial endowment. Kay’s career at George Brown College spanned 35 years of service. She modeled the qualities of a caring and dedicated educator as both a leader and a participant in many learning communities. Kay made everyone with whom she came in contact feel important and valued and she consistently demonstrated her strength in empowering students who, despite life’s hurdles, worked diligently to obtain their educations.
