Centre for Community Service & Early Childhood Services Awards

To be considered for any of the awards listed below students must apply by selecting In-Course Scholarships through STU-VIEW and be enrolled full-time in a Community service and Early Childhood Program.

List of Available Awards for Community Service & Early Childhood Students:

"Gabi" Milius Memorial Award  
Various donors have donated funds for the establishment of the "Gabi" Milius Memorial Award. The award is available to students in the C101 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

 

  • The student must display financial need

American Sign Language- English Interpreter Program Graduate Award  
Ontario Association of Sign Language Interpreters has donated funds for the establishment of the American Sign Language- English Interpreter Program Graduate Award. The award is available to students in the C110 program in any year of study.


Behavioural Science Placement Award  
The Behavioural Science Placement Award is available to students in the C116, C136, C405 program in any year of study.


Bob Luker Community Worker Scholarship  
Various donors have donated funds for the establishment of the Bob Luker Community Worker Scholarship. The Bob Luker Community Worker Scholarship is available to students in the C101 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
  • The students must commitment to social justice and supporting other students

C300 Entrance Bursary  
The C300 Entrance Bursary is available to students in the C300 program in their first year of study.

 

Career and Work Counsellor Scholarship  
George Brown College has donated funds for the establishment of the Career and Work Counsellor Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C119/C135, C101, C133/C143 (Part time) programs.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must demonstrate commitment to field of study

Commitment to Collaborative Learning Award  
The Commitment to Collaborative Learning Award is available to students in the C109/C129/C138 program in any year of study.

 

Commitment to Community Service Award
$1,430 Total Donation has donated funds for the establishment of the Commitment to Community Service Award. The award is available to students in the C133 program in their third year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must demonstrate community service, commitment to diversity, personal and professional growth, and student leadership.

Commitment to Diversity Award
Commitment to Diversity Award is available to students in the C119/C135 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Presented to a full time student who has achieved academic excellence, and who has demonstrated leadership through volunteer community service. Also will be a student in financial need as well as a Canadian citizen or has been a landed immigrant for 12 months.

Commitment to Personal and Professional Growth Award  
The Commitment to Personal and Professional Growth Award is available to students in the C109/C129/C138 program in any year of study.

 

David Condie Memorial Award
The Family of David Condie has donated funds for the establishment of the David Condie Memorial Award.  The Andrew Love Memorial Award of Excellence is available to students in the C108 program.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • The student must display financial need
  • The student should be completing their fieldwork placement outside of Ontario

Destination Cuba Award  
Robert Davis has donated funds for the establishment of the Destination Cuba Award. The award is available to students in the C101, C119, R107 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The students must demonstrate commitment and leadership.
  • The student must be part of the Destination Cuba International Placement

Dorothy Bradley Memorial Award
Lon Lawson Fund for Child and Youth Counsellor Education has donated funds for the establishment of the Dorothy Bradley Memorial Award. The award is available to students in the C133 program in their third year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
  • The students must be a member of Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors
  • The student must demonstrate aptitude and interest in working with families

Douglas E. Light Scholarship - Community Worker  
Helen Light has donated funds for the establishment of the Douglas E. Light Scholarship - Community Worker. The award is available to students in the C101 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
  • The student must demonstrate commitment to field

Douglas E. Light Scholarship – ECE
Helen Light has donated funds for the establishment of the Douglas E. Light Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C100 (ECE), C118 (ECE) program in their second year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
  • The student must demonstrate commitment to field

Dream Office REIT Early Childhood Education Award
Dream Office REIT has donated funds for the establishment of the Dream Office REIT Early Childhood Educational award. The award is available to students in ECE C100, C105, C118, C130, C300, and C301 programs after completion of first semester.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
  • Student must demonstrated leadership qualities

Early Childhood Education Academic Award  
Various have donated funds for the establishment of the Early Childhood Education Academic Award. The award is available to students in the C100, C118 program in any year of study.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need
  • Student must exhibit commitment to children and families in the early year's sector
  • Student must display exemplary behaviour inside and outside of classroom
  • Student should be self-motivated, passionate about learning and demonstrate above average abilities in program

Excellence in Counselling Award  
The Excellence in Counselling Award is available to students in the C109/C129/C138 program in any year of study.

 

Excellence in Life Skills Award
Excellence in Life Skills Award is available to students in the C119/C135 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must demonstrate commitment to personal and professional growth.

Excellence in Mental Health Studies Award  
The Excellence in Mental Health Studies Award is available to students in the C119/C135 program in any year of study.

 

Excellence in Substance Abuse Studies Award  
The Excellence in Substance Abuse Studies Award is available to students in the C119/C135 program in any year of study.


Gillian Johnston Career and Work Counsellor Scholarship  
Ontario Alliance of Career Development Practitioners has donated funds for the establishment of the Gillian Johnston Award. The award is available to part time students in the C109 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • The student must display financial need
  • Student must exhibits a commitment and spirit of dedication to their chosen area of professional study

Harry A. Newman Memorial Scholarship  
Richard John Newman Charity Foundation has donated funds for the establishment of the Harry A. Newman Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C119 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
  • Student must demonstrated leadership qualities

Intervenor Program Award  
The School of Community Services has donated funds for the establishment of the Intervenor Program Award. The award is available to students in the C108 program in their second year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA 3.5

Joan Mactavish Award in Memory of Mae Brown  
Joan Mactavish has donated funds for the establishment of the Joan Mactavish Award in Memory of Mae Brown. The award is available to students in the C108 program in their second year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must demonstrate commitment to field placement.
  • Student must display leadership

Josephine Amelia Walker Award
Caroline Williams has donated funds for the establishment of the Josephine Amelia Walker Award. The award is available to any fulltime student in the School of Early Childhood Education.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
  • Student must be from marginalized community.
  • Student must be a First Generation Student.

Kay Oxford Memorial Bursary
Anne McKenzie-Rivers has donated funds for the establishment of the Kay Oxford Memorial Bursary. The award is available to students in any year in a programs in the Centre for Community Service and Early Childhood.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • Student must demonstrate an openness to learning from others and show a commitment to working with others.

Knowledge First Award
The Knowledge first award is available to student in the C100 program in any year of studies.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need

L & A Promotions Student Scholarship
The L & A Promotions Student Scholarship is available to a student in the School of Social and Community Services programs in any year of studies.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • The student must display financial need

Les Webber Scholarship  
Lon Lawson Fund for Child and Youth Counsellor Education has donated funds for the establishment of the Les Webber Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C104 program in their graduating year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must be a member of Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors
  • Student should demonstrate empathy for troubled children and that they have overcome their struggles.
  • Student should likely remain in Child and Youth Worker field.

Margot McGrath-Harding Memorial Scholarship  
Nicholas Harding has donated funds for the establishment of the Margot McGrath-Harding Memorial Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C108 program in their first year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • Write an essay on: Describing feelings, thoughts, experiences and challenges while reflecting on your first year of Intervener Program and how you look forward to continuing your second year (1500 words maximum)

Masonic Foundation of Ontario Scholarship  
Masonic Foundation of Ontario has donated funds for the establishment of the Masonic Foundation of Ontario Scholarship. The award is available to students in the C134, C133 program in their third year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need

Noel Young Memorial Scholarship
Various donors have donated funds for the establishment of the Noel Young Memorial Scholarship. Students in any year of C300, C301, C118, C100, C130, C105 programs are able to apply for the scholarship.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
  • The student must demonstrate a commitment to advocacy and action in the field of Early Childhood Education

P.A.C.E. Bursary  
P.A.C.E. Canada has donated funds for the establishment of the P.A.C.E. Bursary. The award is available to students in the C100, C118 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
  • Student must exhibits a commitment and spirit of dedication to their chosen area of professional study

Part-time Student Award
The School of Community Services has donated funds for the establishment of the Part-time Student Award. The award is available to part-time students in the C109/C129/C138 programs.

 

Phyllis Eileen Edwards Memorial Award  
Robin Buyers has donated funds for the establishment of the Phyllis Eileen Edwards Memorial Award. The award is available to students in the C101 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the community (college and/or external)
  • The student must display values and skills of a good community worker which, reflects on their work both inside and outside the college

Rachel Langford Award  
Rachel Langford has donated funds for the establishment of the Rachel Langford Award. The award is available to students with a learning disability in the C100, C118 ECE programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must provide proof of learning disability

Ron Sluser Scholarship  
The Ron Sluser Scholarship is available to students in the C119, C135 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must display financial need
  • The students must demonstrate they have overcome obstacles and  significant economic disadvantage.

Student Leadership Award- C101  
Student Leadership Award- C101 is available to students in the C101 program in any year of study.


Student Leadership Award- C109/C129/C138
Student Leadership Award- C109/C129/C138 is available to students in the C109/C129/C138 program in any year of study.

 

Student Leadership Award- C114 ASL & Deaf Studies  
Student Leadership Award- C114 ASL & Deaf Studies is available to students in the C114 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The students must demonstrate initiative, leadership and independence, proving strong skill and application of behavioural principles contributing to client success.

Student Leadership Award- C119/C135  
Student Leadership Award- C119/C135 is available to students in the C119/C135 program in any year of study.

 

The Leona Parr-Hamel Certificate of Recognition  
The Leona Parr-Hamel Certificate of Recognition is available to students in the C108 program in any year of study.
