George Brown College named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers and One of Toronto’s Top 75 Employers

George Brown College has been named one of Canada’s top100 employers and Toronto’s top 75 employers by a blue-ribbon advisory board . It is the only college in Canada on the national list.

Canada’s Top 100 Employers is a national competition, organized by Mediacorp Canada Inc. and sponsored by Eluta.ca - a job search website - in which an advisory board decides which organizations offer exceptional workplaces. The board reviews work atmosphere and social, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management and training and skills development and physical workplace.

“George Brown was identified as having real strength in our vacation and personal time off policies, financial benefits and compensation, training skills & development and community involvement,” said President Anne Sado in announcing the honour recently.

“An accolade such as this is won because of the remarkable people who dedicate themselves to the work we do as a college.  All of you who go that extra mile to ensure great things happen at GBC, for our students, partners, and the community, are both the drivers of and the recipients of this award,” she said.

George Brown was specifically chosen for:

  • Providing generous maternity leave top-up benefits (to 95% of salary for 52 weeks) for new mothers

  • Starting new employees at three weeks paid vacation, in addition to five paid days off during the Christmas season

  • Giving employees free memberships to their onsite fitness facility, which hosts popular yoga classes on a regular basis

  • Offering parental leave top-up benefits (to 93% of salary for 35 weeks) to new fathers and adoptive parents

  • Managing an array of flexible work options, including telecommuting, reduced summer hours and a 35-hour work week, with full pay

More information on the college's selection is available in the issue of Maclean's currently on newsstands and also at www.eluta.ca/top-employer-george-brown-college-of-applied-arts-and-technology.
