Digital Terrorism & Hate: Holocaust Denial on the Internet - Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Date:  Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 4:30pm in Room E112, Casa Loma Campus

Speaker:  Mr.  Michael Ettedgui

Title:  Digital Terrorism & Hate: Holocaust Denial on the Internet

Educator Michael Ettedgui will discuss the dangerous trend on Holocaust denial currently circulating on the Internet.  Mr. Ettedgui is a frequent lecturer on matters relating to tolerance and internet hate crime issues in Canada, and on the topic of Cyberhate: Racism's New Frontline.

In his talk, Mr. Ettedgui will illustrate how the Internet is increasingly being used by terrorists, racists and extremists to train combatants, advance their views and recruit for their organizations. George Brown remains open during TTC Strike - April 28, 2008

With the Toronto Transit Commission workers currently on strike, George Brown College remains open. Classes and services are operating normally through the weekend and into next week, however Continuing Education students should periodically visit coned.georgebrown.ca for information regarding individual class cancellations.

Until TTC service resumes, we suggest that students and staff use GO trains, carpool, and consider alternative means of transportation to the college, such as walking or biking. If the strike continues into next week, Final examinations will be held as scheduled and students should pursue all possible means to get to school.

Students unable to make any arrangements to get to examinations should call their departmental office in advance of the exam. Alternative arrangements will be made once the strike has ended. Students should be aware that we will have limited flexibility and they will have limited notice with regard to the scheduling of make-up examinations and therefore, they are encouraged to make every attempt to get to school during the strike.

Assignments
Students are expected to make every effort to get assignments in by their due date. Students may wish to fax/email assignments to the College.  Please contact your department to make such arrangements.

Student-choreographed dance, presented in studio performance December 13, 2007

Dance Performance Studies students performed their own choreographed solo works in a studio performance at Casa Loma on Dec. 13, 2007. For some students, the choreography class, lead by Sion Irwin-Childs, was their first opportunity to create dance works themselves.

“When you create it yourself it’s harder,” says student Katie Joyce. Joyce started creating her unnamed piece by exploring movements, then adding music. “It changes every time I dance it,” she says. [View photo gallery in separate browser window]

Potential GO Transit Strike 2008

In the event of a transit strike

If GO Transit workers go on strike and bus service is suspended, George Brown College will remain open and all classes and services will operate normally.

To ease traffic congestion we suggest that students and staff use TTC, carpool, and consider alternative means of coming to college, such as biking or walking.

Academic Accommodations for Students

Students are requested to pursue all possible means to get to school. Classes should work together to arrange alternative transportation through car-pooling to the extent that they can. Individual students are also encouraged to consult the Student Association or the welcome desks of Student services for  car-pool lists.

Faculty are asked to avoid scheduling the start tests or exams before 9:30 AM wherever possible in order to accommodate students who need extra time to get to school.

Assignments

Students are expected to get assignments in by the due date. Students may wish to fax/email assignments to the College. Please contact your department for the correct fax number or e-mail address.

VP Academic Excellence and Student Success
