Gwynne
Dyer to visit George Brown College on Tuesday, November 11, 2008
|
Canadian journalist and author Gwynne Dyer to visit George Brown College on Tuesday November 11, 2008 and will deliver two outstanding
lectures:
- "After Iraq" draws on Gwynne Dyer’s most recent book, “The Mess They Made” (McClelland
and Stewart, June 2007). The lecture focuses on a nearer future, after the US military withdraws from Iraq. Will terrorism really get
worse? What will happen to all those Arab regimes that depended on American support when it is no longer guaranteed? What will happen
to oil? What will happen to Israel? [More...]
This lecture will take place from 12:00 to 2:00 PM in Room 303 at 290 Adelaide
Street East.
Lunch
will be provided.
- "Climate Wars", based on his
forthcoming CBC "Ideas" series and Random
House book of the same name (out in fall 2008) deals with the frightening geopolitical implications of large-scale climate change. Governments
are starting to make some calculations that they would prefer not to discuss in front of the children. [More...]

PM in the Student Centre at Casa Loma Campus, 142 Kendal Ave.
Refreshments will be provided.
These lectures are being co-sponsored by the Office of the Vice-President Academic, the Centre for International and

Terrorism & Hate: Holocaust Denial on the Internet - Tuesday, November 4, 2008
|
Date: Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 4:30pm in Room E112, Casa Loma Campus
Speaker: Mr. Michael Ettedgui
Educational Consultant for Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, Canada
Title: Digital Terrorism & Hate: Holocaust Denial on the Internet
Educator Michael Ettedgui will discuss the dangerous trend on Holocaust denial currently circulating
on the Internet. Mr. Ettedgui is a frequent lecturer on matters relating to tolerance and internet hate crime issues in Canada,
and on the topic of Cyberhate: Racism's New Frontline.
In his talk, Mr. Ettedgui will illustrate how the Internet is increasingly being used by terrorists, racists and

With the Toronto Transit Commission workers currently on strike, George Brown College remains open. Classes and services are operating normally through the weekend and into next week, however Continuing Education students should periodically visit coned.georgebrown.ca for information regarding individual class cancellations.
Until TTC service resumes, we suggest that students and staff use GO trains, carpool, and consider alternative means of transportation to the college, such as walking or biking. Student-choreographed
dance, presented in studio performance December 13, 2007
|
|
Dance
Performance Studies students performed their own choreographed solo works in a studio performance at Casa Loma on Dec. 13, 2007.
For some students, the choreography class, lead by Sion Irwin-Childs, was their first opportunity to create dance works themselves.
“When you create it yourself it’s harder,” says student Katie Joyce. Joyce started creating
her unnamed piece by exploring movements, then adding music. “It changes every time I dance it,” she says. [View
